These numbers are hard to ignore.

And they’re not opinions. They come from research and national health data looking at strength, physical activity, body composition and long-term health.

The message is pretty clear.

Muscle and strength aren’t just about how we look. They play a critical role in how we move, how we function, how we age and how capable we stay later in life.

We should start taking that more seriously.

Build muscle. Get strong. Protect it as you age.

You spend enough time in a place together, life starts happening there.

People make friends, change jobs, get married, have kids, lose people, go through some s**t, celebrate big things and sometimes just need somewhere to be for an hour.

Life has a way of finding its way into the gym.

We’re all trying to feel better, live better and make the most of the time we have. And we are grateful we get to do it around some pretty dope ass people.

Everybody wants to feel like somebody gives a s**t if they make it.

Life asks a lot of us. It feels like more of it is outside of our control than we’d probably like. Some days, life is just heavy.

That’s when having good people around matters most. The kind of people who genuinely want to see you win, even when your win has nothing to do with them.

Life can feel a little lighter with good people around.

Strength isn’t something you build once and get to keep forever.

It has to be practiced.

Your body gets stronger because you continue to give it a reason to. Resistance training creates a demand. Over time, your muscles and nervous system respond to that demand by becoming better equipped to handle it.

But that process doesn’t really end.

As you get stronger, the challenge has to grow with you. More weight. Better control. More difficult movements. More work. What that looks like is different for everyone, because strength is relative to the person.

And when you stop training it, eventually you start losing it.

That’s why we’ve never looked at strength as some finish line you’re trying to reach.

// STRENGTH IS A PRACTICE.

Something you continue to work on throughout your life.

Again. Again. Again.

I think we spend a lot of our lives convincing ourselves that happiness is somewhere ahead of us. That we’ll feel better when we accomplish the next thing, make more money, get in better shape, buy the thing we wanted, or finally get our life to look the way we thought it was supposed to look.

I’m guilty of it.

But the older I get, the more I wonder if we’ve made happiness way more complicated than it needs to be.

Maybe a good life has a lot less to do with having more and a lot more to do with having people. Family. Friends. The people who know you, care about you, notice when you’re not around and are genuinely happy when you walk through the door.

There’s a lot of peace in knowing you belong somewhere. In having people to share the ordinary parts of life with. And maybe that’s part of what we’re all actually looking for when we say we want to be happy.

Costa Rica has always meant a lot to my family. It’s a place that has shaped more of my life than most people probably realize, personally and even in some of the ideas behind United Strength. So maybe it’s not a coincidence that I keep coming back to it when I think about what a full life actually looks like.

The video at the end is Steve celebrating his 60th birthday with us. He’s been part of this place for a long time, and if you know Steve, you know how much United Strength means to him. But I think the feeling goes both ways.

Maybe finding your people is really just finding a place where you can show up as yourself, be known, and know that you matter there.

That feels like a pretty good life to me.
