Just to clarify a question I was asked today. These are 8 Trigram Pole Drills 周家八卦棍 (single end) NOT 雙頭 棍 Seung Tao Gwan. These 8 two man drills are exclusively for 8 Trigram. Different concepts than Seung Tao Gwan. Reserved for advanced students learning 8 Trigram Pole. I’ve never had the chance to teach the 5 Seung Tao 2 Man Drills, which use more of the short double end and poking techniques.

Video tribute to our teacher, the late Grandmaster Dean Chin. Sifu Chin taught many students over the years. His school had three locations in Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown: first on I Street, then on H Street, and finally at 740 6th Street, before relocating to Langley Park, Maryland. We are fortunate to have preserved documents and licenses from each location. They are a record of the schools and the generations of students who trained there. Sifu Chin was also planning to teach in Glenodale, Pennsylvania/Philly.

VIDEO: Grandmaster Kong Yu Choi 江譽財 had a profound influence on my Kung Fu and on my life. When my Sigung arranged for me to train with him, he asked me to promise that I would never forget the source of my water and would always remember Sifu Kong.

How could I forget all he gave me, as a man, a teacher, and a father? I will carry his kindness and his teachings with me always. During his funeral the priest referred to me as “Loyal Heart”. Rest in peace, Sifu Kong. 🙏🏾

My teacher, Sifu Kong Yu Choi 江譽財, accepted me as his student after the passing of Sifu Dean Chin. My Sigung, Grandmaster Chan Man Cheung, personally visited his school in Hong Kong to ask that he and his classmates continue my training. Kong Sifu was reluctant at first, so I traveled to Hong Kong to be tested before he would decide whether to accept me.

Our first training session was extremely demanding. I could tell that he was pushing me especially hard to see whether I would quit and whether I possessed the proper attitude and temperament. He spoke very little English, but he knew enough to tell me to get back up whenever I sat down from exhaustion. I trained the entire day without knowing if he would accept me. Finally, around midnight, he spoke and agreed to take me as his student.

Kong Sifu asked me to return to Hong Kong every year, and I honored that request for many years. When he passed away, I traveled back to Hong Kong for his funeral and was honored to be included in the ceremony. His teaching, knowledge, and example had a profound and lasting influence on my Kung Fu. Miss him 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
