🥋 Technique Tuesday: The Diaper Throw
You don't have to be the biggest person in the fight to put someone on the ground.
Today's technique is the Diaper Throw, a takedown that uses positioning, leverage, and your body—not just strength—to bring someone down.
That makes it a great option for a smaller defender dealing with a larger opponent.
Size and strength always matter, but good technique can help level the playing field.
Get low. Use leverage. Take away their balance. 👊

🥊 Sunday Drill: BREED
Punches. Elbows. Knees. Kicks. Put them all together. 👊💥
Today's BREED Drill is about learning to flow between different types of strikes instead of getting comfortable relying on just one.
Distance changes. Position changes. Openings change. Being able to transition naturally between punches, elbows, knees, and kicks helps you adapt as the situation changes.
The goal isn't to memorize a combination—it's to get comfortable flowing from one strike to the next.

🥋 Thursday Tradition: Randori
At First Strike, ranking up comes with a few traditions—and Randori is one of them. 👊
When you earn a new rank, you step up with someone of a higher rank. You give them a kick to the ribs… and then you take one in return. 😄
Last night, we got to continue that tradition as we welcomed a brand-new brown belt! 🟤🥋
It's a little bit of toughness, a little bit of trust, and a tradition that's become part of celebrating how far our students have come.
Congratulations to our newest brown belt. You earned the rank—and you definitely earned the kick. 😂

🥊 Drill Day: Elbow Flow
Sometimes the best way to improve a technique is to stop thinking about it and start moving.
Today's elbow drill works on flowing between different elbow strikes while building timing, coordination, movement, and quick transitions.
The goal isn't to memorize a perfect sequence. It's to get comfortable moving from one strike to another so when something changes, you can change with it.
Smooth first. Speed second. Power follows. 👊💥

🥊 Thursday Training: Spinning Elbows
Take three basic elbows and put them together, and you get one of our favorite flow drills.
The point isn't that you're going to stand there throwing this exact combination in a real fight. The goal is to develop something much more important: the ability to transition smoothly from one strike to the next.
If one strike misses, gets blocked, or doesn't stop the threat, you shouldn't have to stop and think about what comes next.
Flow. Adapt. Keep moving.
That's what we're building with Spinning Elbows. 👊💥

🥋 Technique Tuesday: 7 Basic Elbows
When things get close, elbows become one of your best tools.
Today we're breaking down our 7 basic elbow strikes—different angles, different targets, and different options depending on where the threat is coming from.
The goal is to build these movements into muscle memory so you can strike effectively from almost any position at close range.
Seven elbows. Lots of possibilities. 👊💥

🔫 Thursday Throwback
An older video, but a good look at some of the more advanced training we like to work on at First Strike.
This scenario focuses on controlling an armed attacker and taking them to the ground after the initial defense.
And if this looks like something you'd like to learn—we'll be covering scenarios like this in our upcoming seminars. 👊
More details coming soon!

🔫 Technique Tuesday: Handgun Threat From Behind
Distance changes everything.
Today's technique deals specifically with a handgun threat when the attacker is close behind you and you know exactly where the weapon is.
When they're close enough, you may have an opportunity to redirect the weapon, move out of the line of fire, and respond.
But if the attacker is farther away—or you don't know exactly where the weapon is—this defense doesn't apply. Trying to close that distance can make an already dangerous situation even worse.
That's an important part of self-defense training: knowing when a technique applies and when it doesn't.
Train for the situation, not just the technique.

🥊 Sunday Drill: Kids Just Having Fun
Sometimes training doesn't need to be complicated. 😄
Two kids, some gloves, a lot of punches, and even more laughs.
Our kids program is about learning practical skills, building confidence, staying active, and most importantly—having fun while doing it.
Because when kids actually enjoy training, they want to keep coming back. 👊
