Let's Get Carlos to the US Open Table Tennis Championships!

Carlos Barrientos has been a beloved fixture in the table tennis community for more than 35 years. His passion for the sport is contagious, and now it's our turn to support him.
This December 15–20, Carlos will compete in the 80 & Over Division at the US Open Table Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, with his sights set on bringing home a national championship. I'll have the privilege of serving as his personal coach throughout the tournament.
In 2018, when I was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame, I looked out into the audience and saw Carlos. He had flown to Las Vegas that very morning just to attend the Hall of Fame dinner and share that special moment with me. I was deeply honored by his friendship and support.
Now it's my honor to give back by helping Carlos achieve one of his lifelong table tennis dreams.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help cover Carlos's travel, lodging, tournament entry fees, and other expenses associated with competing at the US Open.
Come meet Carlos and me at Wackadoo Brewery!
🏓 Tuesday, July 14, at 4:00 PM – Live podcast interview
🏓 Saturday, July 18, from 12:00–2:00 PM

– Scott and Carlos take on all challengers! Come test your skills, enjoy a great afternoon of table tennis, have a beer, grab a slice of pizza, and experience one of the world's fastest Olympic sports.
Thank you for helping us make this dream a reality. Every donation and every show of support brings Carlos one step closer to the US Open!

Let's Help Carlos Get to the US Open Table Tennis Championships!

At just 15 years old, Carlos Barrientos discovered table tennis by chance while serving as an altar boy in Cochabamba, Bolivia. A ping pong table at his church introduced him to a sport that would become a lifelong passion.
Years later, after stepping away from the game for nearly 24 years, another chance encounter changed everything. While working in a warehouse in Cochabamba, Carlos came across a ping pong table and immediately rekindled his love for the sport. Beginning again at age 39, he dedicated himself to the sport and quickly became one of the best players in the region.

Not long afterward, Carlos immigrated to Colorado Springs with his wife and daughter. While working for Current, a national greeting card company, on his day off he visited the Olympic Training Center and waited for the gates to open so he could meet representatives from USA Table Tennis and learn where he could continue playing. His determination paid off. Carlos went on to win several Colorado State Championships and was a finalist at an event during the 1993 US National Table Tennis Championships.
Now, as he approaches his 80th birthday, Carlos has set his sights on one more remarkable goal: winning the Men's 80-and-Over Singles Championship at the 2026 US Open Table Tennis Championships in Las Vegas this December.
To help make that dream a reality, Scott Preiss, former US National Team Coach, US Team Trainer, and member of the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame, has volunteered to personally coach Carlos throughout the event. Scott and Carlos have been friends and training partners for more than 34 years and currently train together at the Pikes Peak Ping Pong Club in Colorado Springs.
We are seeking to raise $5,000 to help cover:
• Airfare and transportation
• Hotel accommodations
• Tournament entry fees
• Coaching and training expenses
• Equipment and competition-related costs
Your contribution will help support an inspiring athlete who has dedicated more than six decades to the sport he loves and is still pursuing excellence at an age when most people have long since retired from competition.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings Carlos one step closer to achieving his dream.

Fundraising Goal: $5,000
Thank you for supporting Carlos Barrientos and helping prove that passion, perseverance, and determination have no age limit. 🏓🏆 100% of donations will go to Carlos expenses at US Open. Donations through Venmo should be noted as "Carlos to the Open"
