Taijiquan says: “Command it with the waist.”

The waist governs the whole body. All motion must originate there.

If the waist moves, the body moves; if the waist is aligned, the posture is aligned.

A relaxed waist makes energy agile; a stiff waist breaks force.

Therefore, skill practice begins with adjusting the waist, only then can qi be moved and energy transmitted.

The mingmen is the “Gate of Life” — the pivot point for internal qi.

When the mingmen is blocked, qi cannot flow; when it is open, qi circulates freely.

To open the mingmen, align the body and spine, relax the hips, sink the shoulders, and place the intent in the waist.

When the mingmen opens, upper and lower connect, and inside and outside become one.

The spine is the central axis; the sacrum (tailbone) is the foundation.

During practice, the spine must be upright, with the sense of downward extension reaching the sacrum.

The tailbone should tuck inward, like a cat drawing in its tail; the dantian slightly expands, and the mingmen (life gate) opens.

When the spine is upright, qi flows smoothly; when qi flows smoothly, spirit
becomes clear.

Taiji skill emphasizes the “Three Regulations”- regulating the mind, breath, and body.

To regulate the mind is to calm it; to regulate breath is to make it even; to regulate the body is to align it.

If the mind is not calm, intent cannot focus; if breath is not even, qi will not flow; if the body is not aligned, energy cannot unify.

When all three are cultivated together, inner and outer harmonize.

🙏“In practicing Taijiquan, relaxation (song) is the guiding thread.

Relaxation does not mean collapse, it means inner calmness and
responsiveness.

The head should be suspended, the shoulders sunk, the elbows hanging, the chest
reserved, the back lifted, the waist relaxed and sunk, the hips loosened.

All limbs and joints exist in relaxation, from relaxation comes wholeness, from
wholeness comes liveliness.

With relaxation, qi naturally sinks and spirit naturally concentrates.”

“Internal training has its stages; one must not rush for results.

First calm the mind, then relax the body, then regulate the breath, only then will
the dantian be full and internal qi arise.

When internal qi arises, spirit flourishes; when spirit flourishes, form and spirit
unite, the outer shape becomes round, and the posture becomes whole.

The skill of Taijiquan cannot be gained in a day; one must persevere, refine with
dedication, and only then will the essence be obtained.”

Feeling stressed?

According to Mayo Clinic, Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise that may help reduce stress and anxiety while improving mood, balance, flexibility, and overall well-being.

Through slow, mindful movements and deep breathing, Tai Chi helps calm the mind, relax the body, and restore a sense of balance in daily life.

A few minutes each day can make a difference.
