Champions aren’t built in a day—they’re built one class, one drill, and one lesson at a time.
Our Juniors show up ready to learn, encourage one another, and give their best effort every time they step on the mat. We’re proud to help them develop the confidence, discipline, and respect that will serve them for a lifetime.
The future is bright at Self Defense Academy!

This might look like just another technique being executed solidly.
What we see is connection, trust, and the confidence that comes from training with a great partner! 🤜🤛
Yes, we focus on precision.
Yes, we teach practical defense skills.
But the best part is seeing our members support each other and grow stronger together.

Have you ever felt like you’re waiting for a "lightbulb moment" where your true purpose and confidence suddenly appear? We’re told from a young age that we need to "find ourselves," as if our best version is a lost set of keys hiding under the couch.
But at Self Defense Academy Colorado Springs, we subscribe to a different philosophy. Influenced by the Valente Brothers JuJutsu method and the 753 Code, we believe that you don’t find a warrior—you build one.

The Discipline of Freedom: A Story of Transformation
Let’s start with a hypothetical story about Sarah, a single mother of two who walked into our academy a year ago. Sarah’s life was a whirlwind of responsibilities—work, parenting, and endless notifications pinging on her phone. She felt trapped, not by physical chains but by the constant distractions pulling her away from her goals. She wanted freedom: freedom to feel confident, to be present with her kids, and to reclaim control over her life....

I see it often in the eyes of the parents who drop their kids off at the academy, or the professionals who stop by to ask about our JuJutsu program. They look fit. They hit the gym. They carry that "I used to wrestle" or "I played sports in college" confidence in their posture.
They feel ready. Until the moment they aren't.
There’s a dangerous trick our brains play on us: we confuse general fitness with specific ability.
You might be able to run a 5K, hit a Peloton PR, or bench press more than you could at twenty-five. That’s great. That’s health. But standing on a treadmill isn’t the same as managing a high-pressure confrontation. Lifting a barbell (Which I do often) isn’t the same as the split-second, explosive geometry of defending a takedown or controlling a chaotic situation.

RESPECT. 👊
In the 753 Code, respect begins with something many people overlook: self-respect.
When we carry ourselves with integrity, discipline, and confidence, we create a foundation that allows us to respect others as well. True respect isn’t just saying “yes sir” or “yes ma’am”—it’s learning to be aware of the people around us, considering their feelings, and adjusting our actions to positively impact those we interact with.
At Self Defense Academy, respect is practiced every day. It’s seen when students help new classmates, when training partners look out for one another, and when children learn that strength and kindness go hand in hand.
Respect is a skill. Like any skill, it can be developed, strengthened, and carried into every area of life—at home, at school, at work, and in our community.
This is one of the many principles that makes our academy different. We don’t just teach self-defense—we help develop character through the values found in the VALENTE BROTHERS jiujitsu’ 753 Code.
Come experience the difference for yourself.
