The final 8 weeks of fall marathon training are here. Are you pushing into the "danger zone"? 🏃‍♂️⚠️ Weeks 8-to-4 are when peak volume hits and injury risk skyrockets.

At Alpha Sports Performance Medicine, we want to ensure you make it to the start line healthy. Follow these 5 rules to protect your body during the hardest block of training:

📈 MANAGE YOUR LOAD: Cap weekly increases at 10%. Never try to make up missed mileage.
👟 SMART TRAINING: Keep 80% of your runs easy and cap those long runs around 2.5–3 hours.
🩺 LISTEN TO YOUR BODY: Nip niggles early. Use the two-run rule and never run through persistent pain.
🏋️‍♂️ STRENGTH MATTERS: Don't skip it! Two short strength sessions weekly protect you when fatigue hits.
🗓️ TAPER SMART: Reduce volume by 40–60%, keep some intensity, and avoid last-minute hero efforts.

Need help navigating common problems, figuring out the right strength routines, or managing Texas-specific training elements? We've got you covered. Visit alphasports.org or call 979-398-2787 to level up your recovery and performance. Become AN Alpha. 🛡️

The neck and shoulder don’t work independently—and sometimes the area that feels tight isn’t the whole story.

Hands-on assessment allows us to feel how the tissues are moving, identify areas that may be limiting motion, and work specifically instead of simply chasing the spot that hurts.

Because good soft-tissue work isn’t just about applying pressure. It’s about knowing where, why, and how to apply it.

Attention Texas Sports Parents! 🏈 Navigating a concussion is stressful, but understanding the return-to-play process shouldn't be. The UIL protocol is strict for a reason: to protect your athlete's long-term brain health.

Here is what you need to know about the law:

🚫 Coaches CANNOT make the return-to-play decision.

📝 A physician's evaluation, completed district protocol, and signed forms are mandatory.

📈 Safe recovery requires a stepwise, symptom-free progression.

🧠 Baseline testing is the smartest way to guide a safe return.

Don't leave their recovery to chance. Trust the experts at Alpha Sports Performance Medicine to guide you through every step.

Wrist pain wrecking your front rack or handstands? Let’s talk about what’s actually irritated. Good news: most cases aren't a serious injury. They are a capacity problem in the wrist and forearm. When you have limited wrist extension, your elbows drop during movements like cleans or front squats, forcing your wrists to take the brunt of the load. Here is how to handle it so you don't have to stop training: ✅ MODIFY: Use a false grip or straps for cleans, and switch to dumbbells or parallettes for pressing. ✅ BUILD TOLERANCE: Deliberately train your wrists with loaded extension holds and progressive weight-bearing on the hands. ✅ USE WRAPS WISELY: Wrist wraps are a great tool to help in the moment, but they won't build long-term capacity. They are a tool, not a fix. ⚠️ RED FLAGS: If you experience numbness or tingling into your fingers, or pain over the thumb-side of your wrist after a fall, get an assessment! This could be a scaphoid fracture and requires imaging.
