🏃♀️ Legacy Runner Spotlight: Jan Richards!
For 14 years, Jan has been running, training, and making memories with friends through the BCS Half Marathon.
When asked what she loves about the running lifestyle, she replied:
“I run because it gives me a sense of freedom. I love being out on the road, seeing the world at a slower pace and noticing things I would miss while driving. I get to see roadsides, neighborhoods, homes, and little details up close that I might otherwise pass right by.
I’m also motivated by the feeling of accomplishment. Every time I finish a run, I know I’ve done something good for myself. It reminds me that I’m willing to put in the effort to stay fit, healthy, and strong.
But one of the best parts of running is sharing it with friends. I enjoy being outdoors together, talking, laughing, and encouraging one another. Running gives me the chance to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and spend time with people I care about.
For me, running is about more than exercise. It’s about freedom, accomplishment, friendship, and doing what I can to live a healthy and active life.”
One of Jan’s favorite BCS memories is helping friends train for and complete their first half marathon.
“One of my favorite memories from the BCS Half Marathon comes from the many friends I’ve had the privilege of training with over the past 14 years. I recruited several of my boot camp friends to join me in training for and completing their very first half marathon. We spent months training together, encouraging one another, sharing plenty of laughs, and pushing through the tough days.
But the best part was standing at the finish line and watching my friends cross after completing their first 13.1 miles. Seeing the pride and joy on their faces—and knowing how much work, dedication, and determination it took to get there—was incredibly rewarding. Their accomplishment felt like my accomplishment, too.
There have been so many wonderful memories over the years, but sharing those first 13.1 miles with friends and watching them discover what they were capable of is something I will always treasure. It’s a reminder that running is about so much more than the miles—it’s about friendship, encouragement, and celebrating what we can accomplish together.”
Congrats, Jan! We can’t wait to see you and your boot camp friends on December 13th! ❤️
