Nicki, (C-3/4) is putting in great work with step-ups using the staircase while utilizing the Smith machine bar for upper-extremity support and stability.

The Smith machine bar provides Nicki with a consistent point of contact, allowing her to stabilize through her upper body while she focuses on creating and controlling the movement through her lower extremities. As she steps forward onto the stair and controls herself back down, we’re challenging weight shifting, hip and knee control, lower-extremity loading, balance, and coordination.

A major focus is the transition of her body weight from one leg to the other, learning to accept load through the stepping leg, generate enough force to move her body forward and upward, and then control the movement as she returns to the starting position. The repetitive forward-and-back pattern also gives us an opportunity to reinforce timing and coordination between her upper body, trunk, and lower extremities. WE SEE YOU NICKI!! NEVER GIVE UP!!

Check out Oscar (C3-6) 🚨🚨MILESTONE ALERT 🚨🚨utilizing the Kaizer rack Keiser Fitness to assist his forward progression from a crunch position into an upright to a standing position. By repeating this movement, Oscar developed a stronger connection with his lower extremities, allowing him to activate his glutes and quads more effectively with each rep. The breakthrough came when Oscar was able to stand up without any assistance at his lower extremities, relying on his own strength and maintaining a solid lockout at the top. These are the moments that remind us recovery is built through consistency, repetition, and believing in the process.

Every rep creates opportunity. Every breakthrough builds confidence.

Great work, Oscar. Keep showing up NEVER GIVE UP!

❤️ CHECK OUT NICKI’S RECOVERY JOURNEY. ❤️

Recovery is about making the decision, every single day, to keep showing up especially on the days when progress feels slow and the finish line seems far away. One of the biggest reasons Nicki continues to reach new milestones is ACCOUNTABILITY. She has committed herself to the process, trusted it even when it was difficult, and refused to let setbacks define her story. Every session, every repetition, every challenge has become another opportunity to grow stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. Recovery isn’t built in one breakthrough moment. It’s built through countless small decisions to stay consistent, remain disciplined, and believe that today’s work creates tomorrow’s victories. Nicki’s journey is a reminder that resilience isn’t about never struggling it’s about choosing to keep moving forward despite the struggle. Her courage, determination, and unwavering commitment inspire everyone around her, proving that what once seemed impossible can become reality through faith, perseverance, and relentless effort.

🚨 🚨MILESTONE ALERT 🚨🚨 Today was a huge day for my guy, Carlo (C-5) For the first time, Carlo walked into the facility at SCI-FIT FRESNO without any assistive device. For the first time since his spinal cord injury, Carlo walked into SCI-FIT completely unassisted, without a walker, without crutches, without anyone holding him upright. Just months ago, taking a single step without support seemed unimaginable. Recently, Carlo began taking a few unassisted steps at home. Today, those few steps became 90 feet of independent walking. Ninety feet that represent thousands of hours of hard work, setbacks, victories, tears, pain, hope, and an unwavering belief that his story was finished being written followed by his injury.

People see 90 feet.

We see the countless hours no one else witnessed. The early mornings. The exhausting therapy sessions. The frustration of feeling stuck. The days when progress was invisible. The secondary complications that comes with SCI.The moments when giving up would have been easier than showing up. But Carlo kept showing up. He chose accountability over excuses.
He chose consistency over comfort. He chose faith over fear.
He chose to believe that every small step mattered. Recovery isn’t about perfection. It’s about refusing to quit. It’s about taking one more step when your body says no, trusting that God can do what medicine alone cannot, and believing that today’s effort will become tomorrow’s breakthrough. Carlo, it has been an absolute privilege to witness a small part of your journey. Your resilience has inspired everyone around you, and your determination continues to remind us that miracles are often built through relentless persistence, one step at a time. Today wasn’t just about walking 90 feet.Today was about reclaiming freedom. Reclaiming confidence. Reclaiming independence. This is why we do what we do.Keep moving. Keep believing. Keep trusting God’s timing. Your story is changing lives, and this is only the beginning. Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. The best is still ahead. We see you, Carlo. We believe in you. And we can’t wait to see where your next

🚨 🚨MILESTONE ALERT 🚨🚨
NICKI (C-3/4) incredible breakthrough for Nickie! Nickie worked on free walking without any walking device or upper extremity support, requiring only minimal assistance at the hips. This is a major milestone in her recovery journey and a testament to the power of consistency, courage, and hard work. One of our biggest focuses has been coordinating each step with her breathing. By taking intentional breaths through every movement, we’re helping regulate her nervous system and reduce extensor tone, allowing for smoother, more controlled movement patterns. Every step is an opportunity to retrain the brain and body to work together more efficiently.

Recovery isn’t about perfection, it’s about showing up, trusting the process, and celebrating every victory along the way. Nickie continues to prove that progress is possible when resilience meets consistency.

We see you, Nickie. Keep believing, keep pushing, and keep proving that what’s possible is always expanding.
One step at a time. One breakthrough at a time.

JEFFREY (T-4) 🚨🚨MILESTONE ALERT 🚨🚨

This was a day to remember.

For the first time, Jeffrey took steps coming in from the parking lot into SCI-FIT using his hand walker. To many, it may look like a simple walk. But to those who understand the recovery journey, this moment represents countless hours of hard work, setbacks, determination, and refusing to give up. Every step Jeffrey took was earned through consistency, courage, and resilience. Progress isn’t always measured by speed, it’s measured by the willingness to keep moving forward, even when the road is difficult. Small milestones like this become the foundation for life-changing victories in neurological recovery.

Jeffrey, we’re incredibly proud of you. This is just another reminder that with accountability, persistence, and faith in the process, what once seemed impossible can become reality.

One step. One victory. One milestone closer to independence.
The journey continues. We see you, BIG FREE. Keep going.

GROOMED WITH PURPOSE ✂️❤️
This day was about so much more than haircuts. A huge thank you to House of Discpl’n for showing up and pouring into our SCI-FIT family. Their team blessed not only our clients, but also the caregivers, parents, spouses, significant others, and every person who walks alongside someone living with a spinal cord injury or neurological disorder. Recovery is never a journey taken alone. Behind every milestone is a support system making sacrifices, offering encouragement, and showing up day after day. They deserve to be cared for too.
Something as simple as a fresh haircut can restore confidence, dignity, and remind someone that they are seen, valued, and worthy of self-care. Those moments create smiles that go far beyond the chair.

We are incredibly grateful for House of Discpl’n and their belief in our mission to improve the quality of life for individuals living with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. Your generosity, compassion, and willingness to give back made a lasting impact on everyone who attended.

Thank you for helping us remind our community that recovery is more than rehabilitation, it’s about restoring hope, confidence, and human connection.

TUNE IN. 🎥

Words from Nicki:

“We see you.” "I SEE YOU"

Whether you’re living with a spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or another diagnosis/neurological condition or even if you’re not living with a disability we want you to know this:

There are days when it feels like no one understands.
Days when progress feels slow.
Days when the world moves on while you’re still fighting battles no one else can see.

We see you.
We hear you.
You are not alone.
You are never invisible.

Your journey matters. Your struggles matter. Your victories matter. Keep showing up. Keep believing. Keep moving forward. NEVER GIVE UP!

Carlo Moreno’s recovery journey is a powerful testament to what resilience, accountability, consistency, and an unwavering belief in possibility can accomplish. Following his C5 spinal cord injury, Carlo was told that his future would be limited, that blinking and talking would be all he would ever do. But Carlo and his family refused to let an opinion define his outcome.

Day after day, session after session, Carlo showed up. Even on the difficult days. He embraced the process, remained accountable to his goals, and committed himself to the work required for recovery. The journey has not been easy. Living with a spinal cord injury comes with physical, emotional, and mental challenges that most will never fully understand. Yet through every setback, obstacle, and moment of uncertainty, Carlo continued to move forward. Carlo has achieved milestones that once seemed impossible. From being told he would never move beyond blinking and talking, to standing independently, walking independently with a walker, driving himself, and continually increasing his independence as he continues to redefine what is possible. And the journey isn’t over. He is now working toward walking independently without the use of any assistive device. Carlo’s story serves as a reminder that recovery is not built overnight. It is built through countless small victories, relentless consistency, resilience in the face of adversity, and the courage to keep going when others say you can’t.
