"Most kids don't go pro in sports, but there are thousands of high-demand STEM careers that power the game. We introduce students to ways to stay in the game by using their brains."
STEM Playbook Director of Implementation Jessie Dann recently stopped by the FOX8 News studio to share how weβre making math, science, and data science genuinely fun for students, or as Dann says, "putting the cheese on the broccoli." π₯¦π§
During the 30-minute feature, we brought our interactive equipment to the studio and even put the hosts' neurocognitive reaction times to the test.
From calculating energy recovery in the gym to designing accessible arenas and analyzing cardiac data, our standards-aligned programs have reached 20,000+ students by meeting them right where their interests lie.

In June, we asked 15 girls in our Sismantle program: "Who feels like a leader?" Not one hand went up.
Ten weeks later, they stood in front of family, funders, and their community and presented real solutions to problems like homelessness and senior isolation β built by them, alongside their peers.
Thank you to Bright Side Opportunities Center and everyone who came out to see what these scholars built. Sismantle returns next summer.

A student at the Max Strus Family Foundation summer basketball camp tapped his phone to a chip he'd just programmed, watched his highlight video open, and said: "wait, I did that?"
Yeah. You did that.
That's our playbook: showing vs. telling as the way to learn. We hand the technology over and get out of the way.
Thousands of students did the same thing this summer at the Mayor's Back-School Fest, at Euclid Schools, and other hands-on STEM learning events, thanks to support from the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.

Most students have never met a biomechanist, a sports data analyst, or an engineer who designs athletic equipment. They've watched their work every weekend without knowing the job exists.
STEM Playbook puts students inside that work. They wear the tech, gather the data, run the analysis, and build the thing β the same tasks those careers involve, at a scale a 6th grader can handle.
93% say they want to pursue a STEM career afterward.
That's a workforce pipeline outcome, which is why Perkins V and WIOA dollars apply here and why most programs never think to ask. Our free funding report covers how to make that case.
