Lakeshore Aikido Lakeshore Aikido is a safe and supportive environment to study Aikido as a philosophical system and “Aikido is not a sport.

It is a discipline, an educational process for training the mind, body and spirit. Physical technique is not the true object, but a tool for personal refinement and spiritual growth.” - MITSUGI SAOTOME SHIHAN

Lake Shore Aikido is an affiliate of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, founded by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan. Saotome Shihan was a 15 year uchi deschi (resident student) of the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba O’sensei. Our dojo maintains a philosophy true to O’sensei’s vision; Aikido is for everyone, young and old, weak or strong. Classes are taught with an emphasis on growth at an appropriate speed for the student. Connection and awareness are more important than acquiring a wide array of techniques. Our curriculum includes the use of open hand technique, staff (jo) and sword (bokken). We believe in the balance between integrity (martial reality) and spirit (moral behavior). Our physical practice helps us to develop the strength to become more aware and peaceful human beings

Congratulations to Kazuya Akaki -Ikkyu; Menachem Kushnersky - Nikyu; Michael Patrick - Gokyu; Erin M Day - Gokyu - their tests were all wonderful expressions of their aikido practice and I look forward to seeing their continued growth. I am please with them all.
