Most golfers try to fix their ball striking mid-swing. The problem usually starts in the first foot of the backswing.

Your grip position at parallel tells you everything about where your clubface is heading.

With a neutral grip, your trail hand should look like you could shake someone’s hand when the club reaches parallel to the ground.

✅ Hand too far on top = clubface closes
✅ Hand too far underneath = clubface opens
✅ Shaft should match your toe line at that same position

One thing worth noting: this is relative to your grip. A stronger or weaker grip will change what the correct position looks like for you.

Before you rebuild your entire swing, film yourself down the line and check this position first.

If you’re falling backwards with driver… you’re probably way too static. ❌

Golf is an athletic motion. Your lower body needs to MOVE.

🏈 Think about throwing a football.
⚾️ Think about throwing a baseball.

LEFT ➡️ RIGHT ➡️ LEFT

Try this drill 👇

• Start with a little more pressure on your LEFT side
• Set the clubhead about 2 feet in FRONT of the ball
• Let the arms feel DEAD and feel the weight of the clubhead
• Swing back and transfer pressure into your RIGHT side
• Feel like you’re pushing DOWN into your trail thigh
• Then transfer your lower body LEFT toward the target
• Keep moving through the shot and finish fully on your lead side

Stop standing there with lead feet, spinning out and falling backwards.

Be more dynamic. Transfer your pressure. Let the clubhead move.

Save this drill and try it with your driver. ⛳️

If you’re spinning out from the top, you’re losing power before you even get to the ball.

Try this simple bottle drill:

-Place a bottle just inside your lead heel.
-Start the downswing by shifting pressure into your lead foot.
-Then rotate through the shot.
-If you kick the bottle, you’re opening up too early.

The sequence is pressure first, rotation second. That’s how you create more speed, better contact, and a more consistent driver.

If you struggle with early extension or feel like your hips keep moving toward the golf ball, try this simple basket drill.

Place a range basket just outside your lead leg.

On the downswing, shift pressure from the ball of your lead foot into your lead heel and feel like you’re pushing the basket away from the target line.

This helps:
✅ Create space for your arms
✅ Improve rotation
✅ Reduce standing up through impact
✅ Find more centered contact

Start slow and exaggerate the feel before adding speed.

If you’re catching the ball off the heel or toe, your impact position is likely the problem—not your swing speed.

Here’s a simple drill:

🪵 Place a 2x4 in front of you and slowly rehearse your impact position until the entire clubface sits flush against the wood.

You’re looking for:
✅ Heel and toe touching at the same time
✅ Square clubface
✅ Hands and shaft in a solid impact position
✅ A clean, solid “knock” against the wood

Don’t hit it hard. This is a feel drill, not a power drill.

Repeat it over and over until your body learns what centered impact actually feels like. Then take that same feeling to the golf ball.

Most golfers don’t need a new swing—they need a better understanding of impact.

Grip controls the clubface. The clubface controls where the ball starts.

If your lead-hand grip isn’t on correctly, you’ll spend the rest of your swing trying to make up for it.

Here’s a simple checklist:
✅ Heel pad sits on top of the grip.
✅ Grip runs across the fingers, not the palm.
✅ Thumb sits just on the trail side of the grip.
✅ Match your trail hand to create a neutral grip.

Get this right first, and everything else becomes easier.

💬 What grip do you play—strong, neutral, or weak?

If you can’t get to impact, you’ll never own your golf swing. 🎯

Most golfers spend all their time working on the backswing when the only position that really matters is impact.

Try this drill:

✅ Step 1: Start at setup, then immediately move into your impact position. Feel:
• Pressure on your lead foot
• Hands ahead of the ball
• Hips slightly open

✅ Step 2: Swing to halfway back, then return to that same impact position.

✅ Step 3: Make a full backswing, then return to the same impact position.

✅ Step 4: Hit a ball and recreate that feeling.

This trains your body to sequence correctly instead of guessing where impact should be.

If you “short arm” the backswing, you’re leaving power on the table. 🚨

One of the biggest mistakes I see is golfers keeping the trail arm bent for too long at the top. That narrow position gives you very little leverage, making it harder to create speed and consistency.

Instead, feel width at the top by extending your trail arm.

In this drill, I use only my right hand to train the correct feeling. It’s one of the fastest ways to create a wider backswing, better sequencing, and effortless power.

If your distance control on the greens is inconsistent, try this drill.

Putt with only your trail hand while placing your lead hand on your trail elbow to create a box between your arm and chest.

This drill helps you:

✅ Feel the weight of the putter head
✅ Improve tempo and rhythm
✅ Develop better distance control
✅ Eliminate tension in your hands and arms
✅ React to the target instead of steering the putter

Keep your grip pressure light and let the putter swing naturally. The goal isn’t to force the stroke—it’s to feel the weight of the clubhead and allow it to release toward the target.

Great putters don’t hit putts. They roll putts with rhythm and feel.

Most golfers are gripping the club way too tight… and it’s costing them speed and consistency. 👀

Try this simple test:

✅ Grip the club at 1/10 pressure. If it slips out of your hands, that’s too light.

🎯 Now grip it at 6/10—like a firm handshake.

From there, keep your wrists, forearms, and arms relaxed throughout the swing. A secure grip with relaxed arms allows the clubhead to release naturally, creating more speed, better contact, and improved consistency.

Save this before your next range session and give it a try.
