MAGNIFICENT FINISH AT WAC 2026 — TEAM USA SECOND IN THE WORLD

Competition flying wrapped up in impressive fashion today at the 33rd FAI World Aerobatic Championship in Mason City.

Provisional results following the fourth and final precision program place Team France first overall, with Team USA finishing second in the world and Romania third.

North Iowa’s own Aaron McCartan of Algona is ninth overall in the individual world standings. McCartan placed eighth in today’s Free Unknown program.

Team USA’s Jeff Boerboon delivered one of today’s strongest flights, placing second in the final program, while teammate Craig Gifford stands fourth overall individually.

French pilot Florent Oddon leads the provisional individual standings.

Pilots and crews will take a well-earned rest Tuesday—but the championship is not quite finished.

Wednesday brings the Four Minute Free, the dramatic freestyle finale where selected pilots combine power, precision, creativity and smoke in individually designed routines.

If you have been waiting for one day to see WAC 2026 in person, Wednesday is the day.

Spectator admission and parking at the Mason City Municipal Airport are free.

Results remain provisional pending final approval.

Our Team Doctor Peter Kjell Ballard who also serves as Medical Director for the 2026 World Aerobatic Championships delivered an outstanding presentation on “Medical Response to an Aircraft Accident.”
He walked attendees through the contents of his med response ruck and gave a full hands-on demo of how it’s packed and used in the field.
