Sometimes we just make things harder than they really are. Case in point, a Thompson Center came in that did not want to unlock. And when I say didn't want to unlock you had to take the barrel pin out, the trigger group and then use a lever to push the lock all the way in to get the barrel open.
There was no chance this locking lug fit this frame. But the customer said he used that barrel on that frame before. So he had some other barrels and brought those in. I Measured dimensions off of those and determined that this one was off and not allowing the lug to go all the way in. So thinking this would just be simple machining, we went to deepen the hole and when looking at the initial shavings we stopped. They were shiny and copper colored 🤣
At some point in those barrels life, somebody must have taken the locking lug out to clean the channel and left a piece of cleaning material in there. It was packed very dense at the bottom of the hole and we used a small bit to get into it and break it up
The amount of time spent on someone's last cleaning....ðŸ˜
