me workouts are hard because they’re designed to be.
Others are hard because of why you’re doing them.
The Man in the Red Bandana workout honors Welles Crowther, a 24-year-old equities trader who was working on the 104th floor of the South Tower on September 11, 2001.
Welles was known for always wearing a red bandana — something his mother had given him when he was young. On 9/11, that simple red bandana became the way survivors would remember him.
After the South Tower was struck, Welles helped people find their way out of the building, repeatedly going back upstairs to help others. He ultimately led groups of people to safety before making one final trip back into the tower.
He never came out.
At Firetower, we believe fitness is about more than getting stronger, faster, or fitter. It’s about building the kind of strength that allows us to show up when life gets hard.
We will never know what it felt like to stand where Welles stood that morning. But we can remember his courage, his selflessness, and the lives he helped save.
And we can honor him by refusing to forget.
Today we trained for Welles.
For the people he saved.
For the lives lost on 9/11.
And for the reminder that one person’s courage can make an immeasurable difference.
Never forget. 🇺🇸
