Shad season in Northern California has a way of turning a normal day of swinging flies into controlled chaos.

One second everything feels dialed in… the swing is perfect, the water looks good, you’re feeling pretty confident in your life choices.

Then a shad shows up and turns your fly rod into a metronome of panic.
