Chi-Town Shakti: Yoga + Meditation in Chicago

Chi-Town Shakti: Yoga + Meditation in Chicago Authentic Yoga and Meditation studio with knowledgable instructors who support your unique practice wherever you may be on your yogic journey.

Chi-Town Shakti is a ShambhavAnanda Yoga Affiliate Center, part of the extended family of ShambhavAnanda Yoga. We are committed to this lineage of yoga and have been given the blessing of Sri Shambhavananda to share these authentic teachings with you. When you connect with us, you are tapping into a reservoir of spiritual energy and a vibrant community of practitioners that can serve you along t

he path of your growth. In 2008, a small group of our practitioners, led by husband and wife team, Akaram and Bhakti White, opened the doors of Chi-Town Shakti. The group had dreamed of having their own space to explore this ancient tradition of Yoga in a present practice. Their hard work combined with heart work laid the foundation for a space where the energy just feels special. In 2016, Bhakti and Akaram relocated to Colorado to be near family and our teacher, Babaji Shambhavananda. Since then, dedicated ShambhavAnanda Yoga™ practitioners, Aasha Elliott and Elena Tinaglia graciously took the reins and good karmic fortune as co-owners of Chi-Town Shakti. Aasha and Elena are carrying on the dream of leading a studio where the rich and authentic practices of ShambhavAnanda Yoga™ remain true. The studio stands as a unique gem in the Chicago Yoga community offering a depth of experience that comes from the dedicated teachers and practitioners who not only teach, but truly live the practice of Yoga. Come visit us and experience for yourself what our teachers, classes, workshops teacher trainings and events can offer along your Yogic path!

“You need to be able to dive into your own heart and find that place of deep, deep nourishment inside. And then you get happy for no reason . . . just as the sun is up there radiating all the time, whether we see it or we don’t see it, whether it is cloudy or whether it is night time. In the same way, divine consciousness is inside of us radiating all the time . . . The purpose of a spiritual practice is to help you find that divine consciousness within.” -Sri Shambhavananda

We chant the Guru Gita practice on the first Sunday of every month - a beautiful Sanskrit chant, accompanied by harmonium. Song to the Guru, the Guru manifest and the Guru within. The manifest Guru lights the path and shows us the way. The Guru within is the ultimate intuitive guide, our inner wisdom strengthened with regular, consistent practice.
We offer sliding scale community meditation every Sunday from 10:15 am to 11 am. Check out our website and sign up to join!

BIO:
Justine has regularly practiced yoga at Chi Town Shakti (CTS) for over 10 years and recently completed CTS’s 200-hour yoga teacher certification program. She teaches to share her love of yoga and all its benefits with as many people as possible. In yoga, Justine has experienced many delights: a deeper connection to body and spirit, the centering and calming effects of meditation, and the transformative connection between breath and movement. She feels fortunate to have found yoga as a means to keep her body, mind and spirit healthy and strong.
🕉️
As a teacher, Justine strives to make yoga accessible to all, regardless of experience, age or background. To that end, in class she provides options for postures and uses an abundance of props (blankets, blocks, bolsters, etc.). She strives to be very clear in her cueing, focusing on the connection between breath and movement. Justine brings her authentic self into her class and loves to help all find the joy in practicing yoga.
🪷
As her day job, Justine is a high school teacher. Off the mat, she enjoys reading, hiking, travel and spending time with her family and friends. Justine is deeply appreciative for the support of Chi Town Shakti and ShambhavAnanda Yoga®️ communities as she continues to grow in her yoga and meditation practice.

Ahiṃsā in the Body
A Yin Yoga Workshop
with Kathryn Norris
🧡
Saturday Workshop (September)
September 5
2:00 Pm to 3:30 PM
🩷
The premise of Yin yoga is simple, if a little counterintuitive: we use time, not effort, to create change in the body. We stay in a shape longer — finding enough ease there to sustain the hold, rather than forcing the tissue into what we think it should look like. It’s not about finding an aesthetic pose, but settling in, listening, and meeting the body where it actually is, with variations and props as needed.
🧡
Passive loading, held over minutes, rehydrates connective tissue, supporting mobility and flexibility. The same stillness is doing something else: reharmonizing the body’s energetic balance, letting stuck or excessive energy in a channel settle back into flow.
🩷
That stillness is where Ahiṃsā lives — practiced directly, pose by pose. Ahiṃsā means non-harming, and it’s the first of yoga’s five Yama, the relational guides for how we meet ourselves and others. The other four — truthfulness, non-stealing, right use of energy, non-grasping — only hold if they’re practiced without harm.
Ahiṃsā isn’t one guide among five. It’s the ground they stand on.
🧡
In this workshop, we’ll slow down and spend real time with the postures and this idea — each hold a place to explore what non-harming actually asks of us. Ahiṃsā as the foundation, the other Yamas as what becomes possible once that ground is there.
**Tiered pricing available. We’d love to see you!

✨The Sacred Sound of Self Embrace with Special Guests Hope Littwin and Marcus Broderick✨
Saturday, August 1st: 7 to 9 pm
Tiered pricing available
✨✨✨
NASA recently offered us the closest view of the Sun ever captured… imagine if we could attain an even greater insight of our own inner light.
☀️
Join us for a Sonorous Healing Ceremony co-facilitated by musicians and ceremonialists Hope Littwin and Marcus Broderick Montgomery. Together we will stoke the flames of our inner fire,  and personal power with radical Self-Compassion and Self-Comfort: via the Breath, the Voice, and the Word.
🔥
Like a Kirtan led in call and response, together we will progress through sung and spoken activations over a living bed of droning instruments, bowls, harmonium, and guitar: Song by song, the Kula becomes the choir, the sun sets during the ceremony and we close by candlelight.

Hope Littwin and Marcus Broderick Montgomery are musicians and ceremonialists who have spent their lives in sacred music practice: composing, ministering, and guiding rooms of strangers into song. They are also dear friends, and this ceremony is built the way their friendship is: call and response.

Note: This is not an event centered in ShambhavAnanda Yoga® practices but rather an event offered with Love from our ShambhavAnanda Yoga® space. Proceeds help support studio time for Hope’s upcoming album.
