⚡️ It’s been a minute since I’ve written about our studio and jiu-jitsu—both of which have been a labor of love. We were on the forefront of this art when it initially found its way to Chicago, and I’m still proud of that fact. Beginnings etch deep… Jiu-jitsu was all but a punk rock scene back then. There were few, not many. Now there are plenty. Our past is now distributed across several locations with former students. Our future is our next session, and those that follow.
This art form shows its best face in the moment: full attention, zero distractions. When I’m not on the mats, I am watching them via YouTube from my favorite artists. I’ll always gravitate toward those with a sense of graceful movement while hunting and an almost spiritual vocabulary when speaking about training.
People lose me when the primary focus becomes sales and belt ceremonies. I prefer the moments, miles, and mountains we climb while pulling one another to higher heights—a collective collab by way of like-minded people who still dig the roots of punk rock…
