Pride month ends, but the trans and QTPOC health gap doesn't take July off. Research shows trans women exercise regularly at the lowest rate of any LGBTQ+ group, and Black and Latino adults face steep activity gaps too, well below the national average. Last week the Supreme Court upheld bans on trans student athletes in 27 states. It's about school sports, but the message reaches every locker room. Trans teens already play sports at about half the rate of their cisgender classmates. That's not a coincidence, it's a gap built on purpose, over time. At Han Training we're building the door back in, all year long. Try a class, chip in to Project Liftyboi, either way, let's close the gap one lift at a time.

July's theme is "what does your body actually need," aka we created a calendar that's all about low-key hanging out with humans, no pressure 😊.
It's also Disability Pride Month, so if your body's all like "today I need spoons, not stairs," we gotchu! 🥄 Whether today is a "sit and roll dice" kind of day versus a "dancing your butts off with " kind of day, we have a slot for you.
Slow yoga with Catherine is for an hour-long flow in an intimate, trauma-informed small group so you can take deep breaths and relax 🧘♀️. Bodiful Zumba is for the ones that would like to yell a little, joyfully 💃🏿 . Pelvic Health for PRs with Dr. Laura Ross of exists because apparently your pelvic floor also has a say in your deadlift, who knew! 😮😮
New this month, Yo is launching SideQuest 🎲, a BIPOC-only q***r game social. Board games, low pressure, no expectation to disclose anything or perform anything. You just show up and play. Wed, Jul 16, 7 to 9 pm.

It's also Disability Pride Month, so if your body has opinions about pacing, spoons, or whether today is a "sit and roll dice" kind of day versus a "dancing your butts off with Mocha May" kind of day, this month's lineup has a slot for you.

Staff Day means no class, but Open Gym is still yours if you want it. And if lifting weights isn't the move today, HT D&D Group and Member Book Club are right there, proving once again that "training" at HT is a very capacious word.
started this summer by asking why we move at all. July is asking how, on your terms, on your schedule, with snacks and dices nearby. No PR required to belong here.

Field trip: Korean National Treasures at the Art Institute of Chicago
On Saturday, June 27, 2:30 PM we’re taking into the gallery.
This exhibition is the largest Art Institute show devoted to Korean art in four decades, with about 140 works spanning more than two millennia including national treasures from 국립중앙박물관 , the National Museum of Korea. For a gym named after 한 (han, a Korean word for generational grief, rage, and unfinishedness out of injustice), it felt right to invite the HT fam to see some of the art and history that sit alongside that story—and it’s hosted in what used to be Minky’s old stomping ground as a SAIC student.
One member even left their exhibition catalogue at the front desk after the trip, so folks could flip through the pages between sets and get a feel for the show. It’s another way han shows up in the space: in bodies, in stories, and sometimes in a stack of museum pages next to the member reward stamp cards: a simple way to track progress toward a free class for showing up, posting, reviewing, and arriving early.
We’ll meet at the Modern Wing entrance on Monroe Street at 2:30pm and head into Korean National Treasures: 2,000 Years of Art together. Art Institute admission required; Chicago residents can use Explore More Illinois for a free ticket once per year.
All are welcome. Scan the QR code on the flyer, or go to hantrainingchicago.com/korean-arts to RSVP so we have a sense of who’s coming.

This past week, took us through a lot of feeling in motion – Juneteenth workshops, fundraisers, Zumba, big Pride Fest energy, and even a rain‑soaked Sunday to cool everything down.
On Tuesday, we’re landing all of that a little softer.
Slow Yoga with Kali is one hour to move slowly, breathe on purpose, and let your body catch up. Small class. One hour. Slow. Intentional. Yours.

4 feel-good reasons to Speak with Han this Saturday 💜
Gender-Affirming Voice 101 is our weekend workshop for anyone who wants their voice to feel more like home. If Pride Fest has your social battery blinking red, we’re a 10-minute walk away with A/C, comfy seating, and free drinks so you can rest, learn, and reset your voice before heading back into the chaos or home to your couch.
Your ticket also helps fund Liftyboi’s sliding-scale scholarships so more QTPOC and disabled folks can access trauma-informed, body-neutral training; last year, scholarships helped 22 members train, and this workshop helps us say yes to even more. Carrie McBreen (she/her), a seasoned gender-affirming SLP, is donating both her time and an extra $100 to PLB, so your registration stretches even further.
