Hi everyone,

I’m Michael Reyes, Director of Wyoming Whirlwind Volleyball Club.

I wanted to clear up a common misconception about our Community Open Gyms. They are not recruiting events or tryouts. We’ve already completed team selections for the upcoming season, with the exception of our U12 Regional Team, which will be finalized later this year.

So why do we continue to host Open Gyms?

Because we believe in giving back. We’re fortunate to have our own facility, and we’d rather see it filled with young athletes learning the game, making friends, and having fun than sitting empty.

The residents of Cheyenne and our local business community have supported WWVC through sponsorships and donations. Offering free Community Open Gyms is our way of giving back and investing in the community that has invested in us.

Whether you’re new to volleyball or have years of experience, everyone is welcome!

When I started the Cheyenne Volleyball League, there was only one other volleyball club in town. It’s been incredible to watch the sport grow in Cheyenne and throughout Wyoming. I'm genuinely happy to see so many new opportunities for young athletes, and I'm proud that Wyoming Whirlwind Volleyball Club helped build that early momentum. A few years after I started Wyoming Whirlwind, someone told me we'd never have our own facility. I'm glad I didn't listen. I made the decision to personally invest tens of thousands of dollars of my own money into this organization. That wasn't club money. That wasn't sponsorship money. That was a personal investment because I believe in these athletes and in what this organization could become. To this day, I've never asked to be repaid. My goal has never been to profit from y outh sports. It’s always been about growing volleyball and creating opportunities. I don't take a paycheck from the club, and neither does our assistant director. That is a choice we've made because we'd rather see those resources go directly back into our athletes and program. The growth of the game is exciting, but it also brings challenges. I've heard unconfirmed rumors that the Beast Foundation may no longer host outside club volleyball teams later this year. I haven't been able to verify that, but if something like that were to happen, it could place significant pressure on school gym availability. We've already seen how unpredictable that can be. Long drives, last minute cancellations, families arriving only to find out practice was canceled. Those situations are tough on everyone. At Wyoming Whirlwind, we believe consistency is one of the most important ingredients in athlete development. That belief is exactly why we put so much time, planning, and personal investment into creating a stable training environment. I sincerely wish every club in Cheyenne a successful season. Healthy competition helps grow the game, and ultimately, I just want every athlete in our community to have the opportunity to train in a stable, well-planned environment. I'm excited to share that this season we'll be hosting small team tournaments right here at our facility in Cheyenne. We'll offer divisions for U12, U14, U16, and U17. Each bringing together a few regional teams from Northern Colorado, Nebraska, Northern Wyoming, and surrounding areas. We encourage local clubs to join us. Our goal is simple, give athletes more opportunities to play, grow, build confidence, and deepen their love for volleyball. I also want to recognize the people who make this possible. Thank you to our assistant director and coach Chelsea, for her leadership and countless hours on and off the court. Thank you, Chris, for all your behind the scenes support. And thank you to our dedicated coaches, Miranda, Ashley, and Brooklyn. Your passion and commitment to our athletes makes a difference every single day. Finally, thank you to all of our athletes and families for trusting us and believing in our vision. We look forward to an exciting2026-2027 season filled with growth, hard work, competition, and unforgettable moments. Thank you for being part of the Wyoming Whirlwind family.
