One of our most favorite people and Boss Mare of Loose Horse Mobile Tack got her new saddle today! We also LOVE and sometimes consider horsenapping her lovely mare Whinny, who is an interesting mare to fit! Statically, she is just classic old style warmblood shaped (prominent wither that goes wide and flat at the base and a short distance to T18, and big bodied with a WIDE spine/supraspinus ligament requiring a wide channel. Once in motion, she carries herself very much more uphill and her girth groove and currently prominent summer bod belly pulls everything forward! Her rider is tall, lean, and all legs. We put her in a VSD for a comfy AP style seat with a longer more dressage-y flap. Even though her gullet bar width is perfect, after seeing her ride, we had to remove some flocking from the front of the panels to balance the saddle better up front. We always tell everyone the truth is that, “the first day is the worst day” and wool flocked saddles need break in time! However, we don’t drop ship saddles and we ALWAYS deliver them in person and see them in action so that we can make any needed adjustments in person. You can see in the second photo that even girthed with a rider up that it was still sitting a little too high up front as the horse moved- so we fixed that right then and there! Whinny helped. Yes you need wither clearance, but you also need balance! This is the beauty of an adjustable and flockable saddle. After 45-60 rides, we go back to see how it has broken in and recheck balance, flocking, and width again.
