The Bucs brought the Cook Cup back home, but tonight was about so much more than the final score. It was about honoring a legacy built on sportsmanship, integrity, dedication, and excellence.

Thank you to Charlotte Catholic for sharing in this special tradition and helping us honor the legacies of John Cook and Jim Oddo. Their impact reaches far beyond the football field.

The Cook Cup is home. 🏆 GO BUCS!

As we get ready for the Cook Cup on Friday, it’s easy to focus on the competition and what happens between the end zones. But one of the things that makes this rivalry - and this team - special is that football has always been about more than the scoreboard.

In June, our players volunteered at Camp SOAR at the JCC through the Mecklenburg Special Olympics, leading two football clinics for the campers. In July and August, we hosted a flag football clinic on our own campus. Our players led skills, drills, and games, but more importantly, they created an opportunity for athletes to experience the joy of the game, build confidence, and feel part of the football community.

Those experiences are a great reminder of what character looks like. Character isn’t just how you compete when the lights are on. It’s how you treat people when there is nothing to gain on the scoreboard. It’s whether you are willing to give your time, encourage someone else, and use your abilities to make an impact beyond yourself.

That is what the Cook Cup represents: a reminder of the character that competition is meant to build.

The Cook Cup is not simply about who wins on Friday. It represents respect, courage, teamwork, sportsmanship, service, leadership, and tradition. The same character that drives a player to compete for the Cook Cup should also inspire them to serve, encourage, and make a difference beyond the game. Our team’s work with Special Olympics this summer is a great example of that purpose.

While Friday’s game will determine who takes home the Cook Cup, the tradition of this rivalry is about something bigger: the people we become through sports and the impact we make beyond the field is the tradition of character we hope to continue.

What a week at UCA Camp for our Buccaneer Cheer team in early August! 📣💚

The girls spent the week learning and showcasing a situational sideline, camp dance, game day cheer and stunt pyramid - and brought home some impressive hardware:
🥇 1st Place — Cheer Category
🥈 2nd Place — Crowd Pleaser
🥉 3rd Place — Camp Routine

But the awards that meant the most went beyond the trophies. The team was honored with the Leadership Award, voted on by all 12 teams at camp for the squad that best represents the traditions, spirit and leadership of cheerleading both on and off the field.

They also earned the camp’s coveted Banana Award for High Spirits two days in a row - an incredible accomplishment and the ultimate recognition of spirit at camp!

The Bucs also had 9 All-American Cheerleaders recognized:
⭐ Seniors: London, Audrey, Adeline, Kalaila & Zoe N.
⭐ Juniors: Zoe W., Caroline T., Peyton & Lily

And a special congratulations to Kalaila and Zoe N., who were selected for UCA’s Pin It Forward recognition for going above and beyond.
From earning a Gold Superior ribbon during evaluations to representing Country Day with energy, leadership and heart, this team made an incredible statement in their first week together.

This prestigious honor recognizes the Top 100 high school performances in the nation in each individual event and relay during the 2025–26 season. Earning All-America status is a testament to months of dedication, hard work, and outstanding performances in the pool.
