Thank you to everyone that came out to push themselves to celebrate the life of our friend James.

Life is cruel sometimes and we all have to move on now with what is our new normal, and the best way to honor James is to be more like him.

Treat people well, have a positive impact, smile, and push yourself and the people around you.

But also know that you are not defined by your accomplishments, you’re not letting anyone down if you are doing your best, and you certainly have people that love you and will help you if you need it.

BE KIND. DO GOOD. LOVE OTHERS.

Next Saturday, we train for James. 🤍

James Gulley wasn’t just an incredible athlete. He was one of the first people in Charlotte to step into the world of HYROX — long before most people here even knew what it was.

He competed. He trained. He pushed himself. And in many ways, he helped pave the way for the HYROX and hybrid community that has grown so much in Charlotte today.

James was a pioneer.

But more importantly, he was our friend.

Next Saturday, we’re turning our HYROX training event into something much bigger than a workout.

We’re coming together to run for James. To work for him. To sweat for him. And to celebrate his energy, kindness and unforgettable smile.

And in the middle of the floor, there will be one empty treadmill for James.

As we train, that treadmill will remain empty — a symbol of our friend and the athlete who should be there alongside us. A reminder of how fragile life can be, and how incredibly blessed we are to be here, surrounded by people we care about.

This one isn’t about times or who finishes first.

It’s about James.

We’re opening two sessions — 9:00 AM + 10:30 AM — so more of our community can be part of this day.

All proceeds will benefit James’s son, Archer, and his family.

If you’re a local business, vendor, organization or volunteer who would like to help make this day even more special, please DM us. We’d be grateful to have you be part of honoring James.

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our friend, teammate, and forever a member of the MOTION family, James Gulley.

James was an incredible soul with an infectious smile and a presence that made the people around him better. He was a father, a son, a friend, talented soccer player, an avid runner, and an incredible HYROX and hybrid athlete. But more than any of those things, James was simply a wonderful human being.

If you knew James, you knew his smile. You knew his energy. You knew the kindness and positivity he brought into a room. He will be deeply missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.

Our hearts are with James’s son, his family, his friends, and everyone whose life he touched.

In the coming days, the MOTION community will come together to honor James and support his family. We will share more as those plans come together.

Life can be incredibly hard, and we don’t always know what someone else may be carrying. Please be kind. Check on the people you love. Tell them what they mean to you. And if you are struggling, please ask for help.

James, we love you. We will miss you more than words can say.

What’s more fun than dressing up in your best Halloween costume and starting the day at The MOTION Running Scared 5k presented by National Gypsum Company and with our partners from Sisu Running.

Including an exciting Monster Mile event for the kids!

This is going to be a special year, it’s the 10th anniversary of the race and it happens to fall on Halloween this year.

Throw in some fun vendors, face painting, events for the kids, trunk or treat, and a few more surprises and you have the perfect way to start the spookiest Saturday of the year.

What an amazing Pilates event at MOTION.

The vibes were high, and so was the caffeine thanks to Palm & Psalm Coffee & Co. | CLT, NC and our incredible instructors Margot✨ and Ash 🤍 who provided expert instruction and positivity.

We are looking forward to growing our yoga and Pilates community and appreciate all of the support of everyone who attended.

When it’s you versus you, but really it’s you and your partner versus everyone.

This was the most competitive event yet. We had teams going all out at every event trying to outpace, outlast, and out perform each other at every station.

And after all the competition it’s all smiles, laughter, gratitude, and support for one another.

It doesn’t get any better than this.
