Excited to play some 🤽🏽♀️ polo with the ladies! We have a beautiful mix of experience players, players just getting started, and women brand new to the sport. Put down your excuses and just join us. We will be at the pool tomorrow night; Wed, February 4 & again on Wed, February 18. Please message us with any questions. Can’t wait to meet you.

Last night was WAY more than we could have imagined. Our mens team has been around for over 30 years, but last night we hosted our first Women-Only practice and the ladies SHOWED UP! We had 15 in attendance with another ten say they’ll be at the next one (and a handful more on the fence). What a night.
While some players hadn’t picked up a Waterpolo ball in over a decade and a few had never played Waterpolo before, the majority just hadn’t played recently and loved being back in the water. Everyone agreed; we needed this 🤽🏽♀️. If you were one of the gals sitting on the fence, I hope you’ll join us next time.

🩷 I’ve been so pleased with the incredibly positive response I’ve gotten about tomorrow’s women only practice. The most common thing I’m hearing is that we’re feeling a little nervous about showing up. 😳 I can’t stress enough, we’re doing this first practice as a feeler, testing the waters, no experience necessary!! I anticipate this to be a wholesome, fun, “getting the girls together” practice. 🤽🏽♀️🤽🏽♀️🤽🏽♀️ Don’t be scared. Just join us. 😏

We’re really excited to finally be hosting our first ever, women-only practice. Have not practiced in 5 years? 20 years? Doesn’t matter, this practice is for you! ALL skill levels warmly welcomed! 🤽🏽♀️🩷🤽🏽♀️🩷🤽🏽♀️

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the one and only Dan Medvid yesterday. It was a beautiful celebration of life hosted by his wife and children. We enjoyed hearing stories, playing Dan-Jeopardy, catching up with old friends, making new ones. Dan is gone from this world way too soon, but he’ll never be forgotten as he lives on in all those who love him and miss him. Rest in Peace friend.

On Tuesday evening at practice, the unthinkable happened. Our friend and teammate, Dan Medvid, passed away.
Dan joined the Charlotte Sharks more than 30 years ago, shortly after we began practicing at the aquatic center in 1991. Dan began playing Waterpolo in high school in Pittsburgh and later played with the Pittsburgh Renegades . Lucky for us, life brought him to Charlotte where he immediately became involved with the Sharks. He sat on the aquatic board for many years protecting Waterpolo’s best interests at the pool.
Dan was always known for wanting to take the swim off. In the 90s during the Eastern Water Polo League he was even awarded for winning the most swim offs of anyone that season. You could always count on Dan for a laugh or a joke. But you could also count on him to be there for you. Last year when one of our teammates was in the hospital he asked if Dan would come by with a few things. Including a toothbrush. Dan went out of his way to find the most obnoxious, pink & sparkly, toothbrush he could - he presented it proudly. That’s the kind of guy he was.
Dan is survived by his wife, Julia and children Sophia and Drew.
Personally, it’s hard to fathom a world without Dan. At practice on Tuesday I was handing out caps when he walked on deck, and I stopped and gave him a big hug. He said, “Always time for a Jess hug” ❤️ a good reminder that life is precious, you should love the people around you and not take them for granted.
RIP Dan. We love you.
