For nine decades, the McCrorey YMCA has been a steady presence in the Historic West End. A place where basketball games turn into lifelong friendships, where worship nights bring the whole community together, and where every generation, from toddlers to grandparents, finds a reason to walk through the doors.

This year, we're celebrating that legacy with nine milestone events honoring the families who built McCrorey, the community it serves today, and the neighbors it's still waiting to welcome.

We hope you’ll join us at our September events to mark this special milestone.

This is 90 years of McCrorey. This is home.

Learn. Lead. Make your voice heard.

Youth & Government gives high school students a hands-on opportunity to learn how government works while building confidence and leadership skills.

Teens discuss and debate issues, propose legislation, explore different perspectives, and strengthen communication and problem-solving skills. The experience culminates at a youth-led state conference in Raleigh, where participants put what they've learned into action.

Every child learns differently—and at the Y, every preschool experience is designed to help them grow through play.

No matter which program you choose, your child will build confidence, friendships, and kindergarten-ready skills in a safe, nurturing environment led by caring early childhood educators. Our half-day preschool programs are available at multiple YMCA locations across Greater Charlotte.

Here's what makes each experience unique:

🌳 Outdoor Experience (Brace & Lake Norman)
Children take learning beyond the classroom with daily outdoor exploration. Nature becomes the backdrop for building curiosity, confidence, creativity, and a love of learning.

🎨 Arts Integration (Morrison)
Music, movement, theatre, and visual arts are woven into everyday learning, helping children express themselves while building early literacy, math, and communication skills.

🌎 Spanish Immersion (Harris)
Children learn in a bilingual environment where everyday experiences introduce both English and Spanish, building language skills alongside confidence and curiosity.

🧸 Traditional Preschool (Brace, Harris, Keith, & Lowe's)
A play-based classroom where children build social, emotional, and academic foundations through hands-on learning, creative play, and meaningful connections with teachers and classmates.

📚 MECK Pre-K (McCrorey, Simmons, & Stratford Richardson)
Eligible 4-year-olds can also attend free, full-day MECK Pre-K classrooms at select YMCA locations. The program is administered by Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and prepares children for kindergarten through engaging, high-quality early learning.

No matter which path you choose, your child will discover, learn, and grow every step of the way.
