New beginnings can be exciting and uncomfortable at the same time. Hi, I’m Dr. Dawn Holmes, founder and owner of SCAA Community Counseling Center. I’m also the clinical counselor and family life coach here. And I’m coming to you each week with a little reminder for your mind, your relationships, and your family life. So, here’s this week’s reminder…

Starting something new doesn't automatically mean you're going to feel confident.
A new school year.
A new job.
A new relationship.
A new season of parenting.
A new chapter of life.
Sometimes the excitement and the anxiety show up together.

You can be grateful for where you're going and still miss where you've been. You can know something is good for you and still feel nervous about the change. Give yourself permission to adjust. You don't have to feel completely comfortable before you're allowed to move forward.

❓ What is one transition you're navigating right now?

Remember: you don’t have to have everything figured out. Sometimes, a little awareness, a little encouragement, and the right support can make a difference.

I’ll see you next week for another weekly reminder from SCAA Community Counseling Center. Contact me at [email protected] for an appointment

Returning from UCA Masters Camp with our 3rd Leadership Award feels incredibly special.

Wake Forest University will always hold a special place in my heart because it's where I earned my counseling degree. To come back, not only as the sole counselor and family coach at SCAA Community Counseling Center, but also as the Head Varsity Cheer Coach for the Palisades Pumas, and watch our team be recognized for leadership is a full-circle moment I'll never forget. Palisades Pumas High School Cheer

By day, I help individuals and families grow through counseling and coaching. On the sidelines, I have the privilege of helping young women grow into confident leaders. The mission is the same: build people first.

One of the proudest moments at camp wasn't just bringing home our 3rd Leadership Award. It was hearing that when other programs were asked, "If you could be any team here, who would you want to be?" the answer was Palisades Pumas.

Not because of our skills alone, but because of our values:
💜 Character over recognition
💙 Leadership through service
💜 Team spirit that lifts everyone
💙 Hyping up every team, not just our own
💜 A Sisterhood built on kindness, respect, and encouragement 🥰

That is the legacy we're building. Awards may recognize excellence, but character is what people remember. Awards are earned, but a reputation is built one choice at a time. I'm incredibly grateful to coach athletes who understand that true leadership is measured by how you make others feel.

Thank you, Wake Forest, for shaping the counselor and leader I am today, and thank you to these amazing athletes for making this journey so meaningful 🙏 WFU Campus Programs & Services

Every student has a story. Every family faces challenges. And every season of life is an opportunity to grow.

At this Community Counseling Center, I believe resilience isn't something you're born with it's something you can build.

As a licensed counselor and family coach, my passion is helping high school students, college students, and families navigate life's transitions with confidence, emotional wellness, and hope.

Whether you're preparing for high school, adjusting to college, supporting your teen, or working through life's challenges, you don't have to do it alone.

This page will be a place to find practical tips, encouragement, and tools to help students and families thrive, both inside and outside the counseling office.

I'm grateful to share that I've officially added my South Carolina Counseling License to my credentials!

In addition to being a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, I am now licensed to provide professional counseling services in both North Carolina and South Carolina.

As a solo practice founded in 2021, my mission has always been to provide compassionate, personalized care for individuals, couples, and families. This new credential allows me to extend that same support to even more people across state lines through virtual counseling.

🙏 Thank you to every client, family, and community member who has trusted the SCAA Community Counseling Center over the years. Your support has made this growth possible, and I'm excited for what lies ahead.

💙 Now Licensed in:
📍 North Carolina (LCMHC)
📍 South Carolina (Licensed Professional Counselor)

Serving clients virtually in both states.

Since opening SCAA Community Counseling Center in 2021, I've worked hard to keep counseling and family coaching services as affordable and accessible as possible. For years, my co-pay remained at $45, and more recently $65, well below the rates charged by many private practices.

To continue providing personalized, one-on-one care, maintaining a virtual practice, and serving individuals and families with the time and attention they deserve, I will be implementing a fee increase beginning August 1st 2026.

As the sole counselor and family coach at SCAA, every session is personal, intentional, and centered on helping you grow and heal. Thank you for trusting me with your journey and for supporting a small, independently run practice. Your investment in your mental health is one of the greatest investments you can make. I look forward to continuing to serve our community with compassion, excellence, and care. 💙🙏💚

🎉 Happy Father’s Day to the fathers, father figures, mentors, and caregivers who pour love, wisdom, and strength into their families every day. ❤️ Today we celebrate the men who show up, not just with their presence, but with patience, guidance, sacrifice, and the commitment to building healthier families and stronger communities.

At SCAA Community Counseling Center, my mission is rooted in supporting families through life’s challenges. As a counselor and family coach, I am honored to walk alongside individuals and families, helping them strengthen connections, improve communication, and create healthier relationships.

Running a community counseling center as one counselor and family coach means every conversation matters, every family story matters, and every step toward healing and growth matters. To all the dads who are learning, growing, and loving their families in meaningful ways today we honor you. Thank you for being a foundation of hope and connection in your homes and communities 🙏💙

🙏 I’m grateful for the opportunity to attend the 37th Annual Boston International Trauma Conference as a Clinical Counselor. This experience provided valuable insights into the latest trauma-informed practices, interventions, and research that will strengthen the support I provide to students and clients alike.

A special thank you to Johnson & Wales University for investing in my professional development and covering the cost of attendance. The knowledge and skills gained from this conference will directly benefit our campus community as I work to bring evidence-based trauma-informed practices back to support student well-being. Johnson & Wales University

I’m also excited to apply what I’ve learned at my community counseling center, as a dedicated counselor and family coach. Continuing to grow as a clinician allows me to better serve individuals, families, and communities as they navigate healing, resilience, and personal growth. My professional development is most meaningful when it translates into positive impact for others, and I look forward to putting these lessons into practice Trauma Research Foundation
