Spring is my fave season for a lot of reasons.

♊️My birthday is in May
🌿 rebirth & new beginnings
🧘🏾‍♀️Outdoor yoga

During the pandemic I started hosting backyard sessions. The backyard sessions allowed for folks to social distance and prioritize self care.

So glad these sessions have stayed around! Now booking private sessions through June.

Happy Monday from your natural hair wearing, ripped jeans, potty mouth DEI consultant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's your reminder to show up as your full self, friend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's an act of resistance to just be you. ✨

A lot of folks wonder how my worlds of yoga + DEI consulting collide.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's simple---the mission of both is creating an inclusive environment.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a yoga class the language that I use, matters.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The accessibility of yoga asana, matters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The physical and psychological safety of folks who come to my classes, matter ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a yoga instructor it my goal to lead folks through asana that is safe(both physically and psychologically, inclusive, and honors their autonomy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The same reigns true in my consultant work. I work alongside business owners to disrupt white dominant norms in their businesses.

This is how I reframe imposter syndrome. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am often the youngest in many of the spaces I occupy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am often the only woman in many spaces that I occupy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am often the only Black person in many spaces that I occupy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not feeling like I belong is a reflection of the culture. This is your reminder that you deserve to be here! You are not responsible for the bias and systems of oppression acting against you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You deserve to be here and you got this friend! Im rooting for you 🤍⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I used to think I had imposter syndrome…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It would show up every single I navigated spaces where I don’t see myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Im only Black woman on my team & the youngest. But we’ll save a lesson in intersectionality for another day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I quickly realized— it’s not that I doubt my abilities, it’s all of the other folks around me that want me to constantly prove myself( yes I mean yt ⚪️).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve had to learn how to cope & overcome imposter syndrome. Here’s 4 tips I’ve learned: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Showing up as your authentic self is a, radical and audacious act. Keep going! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Let go of perfectionism. This is a side effect of being socialized in white dominant culture. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Find a trusted mentor, a confidant, one that affirms your and doesn’t gaslight you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Celebrate your small wins. Keep a brag box of all of the things you’ve accomplished. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drop a ✨ in the comments if you relate.

Allyship extends beyond 🌈 logos

We’ve all seen the companies in solidarity for LGBTQ+ folks all of sudden. But what’s your HRC Corporate Equality Index though?

Here are 4 tips for being an ally to LGBTQ+ folks in the workplace!

Use your privilege.
Use your voice.
Use google.
Use inclusive language.

SETTING INTENTIONS

At the beginning of every yoga asana session, I invite folks to set an intention. This is referred to as Sankalpa in Sanskrit.

An intention is a conscious goal set ahead of time. It allows us to bring attention to our goals and move accordingly.

We set intentions all the time. Not just on our mats. Setting an intention for the month, week, and day is one of my favorite off the mat yoga practices.

What’re your intentions for June?

Happy 1st birthday Blissfully Yogi!

Cheers to one hear of business, growth, and building community. I started my business 5 days before losing my job due to covid.

To the person considering starting something new, here is your sign. Do the dang thang! Start the business, the movement, the script, the podcast, the book, the schooling.

Whatever the thing is. Just do it! I never would've thought I would experience this much growth in such a short amount of time.
