We're bringing something special to Taproot this fall: a 3-part Yoga Tune Up® series with guest instructor Alison Pignolet! 🌙

If you've ever felt stuck in certain poses, dealt with chronic tension, or wondered why your body won't do what you're asking it to, this series will give you answers and tools to actually create change.

What is Yoga Tune Up®?

It combines targeted self-massage using therapy balls (the Roll Model® Method) with corrective exercises and anatomical education. Instead of forcing your body into shapes, you'll learn WHY you have restrictions and how to release them from the inside out.

📌 Class 1: Tune Up Your Half Moon Pose
Friday, October 2nd | 5:30 - 7:00 PM

We'll focus on external rotation in the hip and shoulder to help you "fully blossom your moon." You'll leave with practical tools you can use at home and a deeper understanding of how your body actually works.

Meet Alison:

Alison has been teaching yoga since 2010 and is an E-RYT 200, certified Yoga Tune Up® & Roll Model® trainer, with 700+ hours of additional training in anatomy and therapeutics. She's also a MovNat instructor and RockTape FMT Movement Specialist.

Limited spots for this special series!

Before you move into your next pose - pause. Notice your breath.

In yoga, pranayama (breath control) is the foundation of the entire practice. Your breath is the bridge between your conscious mind and your autonomic nervous system. When you change how you breathe, you change how you feel.

Here are three foundational breathwork techniques to try:

✨ Ujjayi (Ocean Breath)
How: Breathe in and out through your nose with a slight constriction at the back of your throat, creating a soft ocean-like sound.
Effect: Increases focus, builds internal heat, calms the mind. This is the breath most commonly used during flowing yoga practices.

✨ Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
How: Use your thumb to close your right nostril, inhale through the left. Close the left nostril with your ring finger, exhale through the right. Inhale right, switch, exhale left. Continue alternating. Effect: Can reduce anxiety and bring mental clarity and emotional equilibrium.

✨ Dirgha Pranayama (Three-Part Breath)
How: Inhale deeply, fill your belly first, then your ribcage, then your chest. Exhale in reverse order – chest, ribs, belly.
Effect: Activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode), grounds you in your body, reduces stress and overwhelm.

Your nervous system responds to your breath faster than it responds to your thoughts. When you're anxious, your breath becomes shallow and rapid. When you're calm, your breath is slow and full. By consciously controlling your breath, you're literally teaching your nervous system that it's safe to relax.

This is why we say the breath is the primary teacher. It guides you into your body, anchors you in the present moment, and gives you agency over your internal state.

Try one of these techniques today. Notice what shifts. Your practice, and your life, will deepen when you remember that the breath leads, and the body follows.

Save this post to return to these techniques whenever you need to ground, focus, or find balance. 💛

We're now offering a kids yoga class (ages 5+) from 5:45-6:45 pm every Tuesday, at the same time as our adult Slow Flow class!

You can drop off your child in the kids yoga space, then head to your own practice. They move, play, breathe, and explore through yoga games, stories, and songs. You get your full practice. Everyone leaves grounded.

This isn't just about keeping kids entertained or burning off energy. It's about helping children develop somatic awareness – learning that their bodies are trustworthy, their feelings belong, and movement can help them process big emotions.

We're teaching them tools they'll carry for life: how to breathe when they're overwhelmed, how to notice what they feel in their bodies, how to move through discomfort instead of stuffing it down. 💛

If you're highly sensitive, you've probably heard: "You need thicker skin." "You're too empathic." "You absorb too much."

Maybe you've tried to become less sensitive, less porous, less affected by the world around you.

But your sensitivity isn't the problem. It's your gift.

It's why you can feel what's beneath the surface. Why people trust you with their deepest pain. Why you track the subtle shifts in the energetic field that others miss.

Without proper architecture, though, that gift becomes a liability. You pick up everything and you carry it home. You can't tell what's yours and what isn't. Your nervous system stays activated long after the moment ends.

What you need isn't less sensitivity. You need a stronger container.

The Grounded Healer, David Ramsey’s new book, teaches:

→ How to turn sensitivity into precision instead of overwhelm
→ The structural difference between attunement and absorption
→ Why your nervous system needs clear energetic boundaries to stay regulated
→ How to expand your capacity without expanding your vulnerability

David has spent over 30 years working with healers, bodyworkers, therapists, energy practitioners, and with our community here at Taproot. Through this healing work, he’s discovered that you don't have to choose between being sensitive and being sustainable. You can be both. But it requires architecture.

David Ramsey, co-founder of Taproot Yoga, has spent 30+ years working with healers, therapists, bodyworkers, and energy practitioners all facing the same challenge:

How do you stay present without absorbing the trauma you're holding space for?

How do you build genuine boundaries that protect your system while keeping you open for authentic connection?

Over time, David realized these aren't just practitioner problems. They're human problems. Problems for anyone who holds space, carries emotional labor, or feels deeply.

So he wrote The Grounded Healer.

Inside the book:

→ The deep structure of how trauma organizes in the body-field
→ The difference between empathy and absorption
→ How to build the energetic "field between us" consciously
→ Why defense patterns protect us (and distort us)
→ Somatic practices for building authentic inner authority

David isn't here as a guru - he's someone who's worked with this architecture for decades and can help you see patterns you might not see yet. But your inner authority? That's yours to cultivate.

Sound Healing is one of the most effortless practices we offer. You don't have to do anything except show up and receive. We begin with gentle warm-up movements to help your body settle, then you'll rest comfortably as crystal singing bowls, gongs, and healing instruments guide your nervous system into deep restoration.

The vibrations work on a cellular level, helping release tension your body has been holding, sometimes for years. Whether you're dealing with physical pain, emotional stress, or just need to hit reset after a long week, sound healing meets you exactly where you are.

Led by Sue, who brings 15 years of yoga practice, Reiki certification, and specialized training in sound therapy. She creates a truly healing container where you can let go completely and allow the frequencies to do their work.

Space is limited. Register now so you don't miss this.

You finish a long day. You held space, stayed patient, set boundaries. You did everything "right."

Yet by the end of the day, you're completely depleted. Someone asks how you are, and you snap. You feel irritable, fragmented, heavy with stress that isn't even yours.

Here's the truth: You're performing. Performing centeredness. Performing the "perfectly healed" version of yourself.

Most of us were never taught the actual architecture of boundaries. We were only taught techniques: breathwork, grounding exercises, energy clearing. But techniques aren't structure.

The Grounded Healer, David Ramsey’s new book, maps the deep structure of how trauma moves through the body-field, how to build boundaries that hold connection without collapse, and how to operate from genuine presence instead of performing it.

This isn't another technique manual. It's the architecture for moving from performance to presence, with somatic tools you can use immediately.

Props aren't training wheels you're supposed to graduate from. They're tools that allow you to practice yoga in a way that actually serves your body.

The idea that using props means you're "not good enough yet" is rooted in performance culture – the belief that there's one ideal version of a pose and everyone should be striving to achieve it. That's not yoga.

Real yoga adapts to you. It meets your unique body structure, your current capacity, your injuries, your nervous system state, and your goals for that particular practice. Props make this possible.

At Taproot, we use props liberally because we understand that the practice should fit the person, not the other way around.

Come practice in a space where your body's needs are honored, not judged. Try 3 weeks unlimited for $39: https://threeweekpass.taprootyogachardon.com/3weekpass

In Ayurveda, late summer belongs to the earth element: the season of grounding, stabilizing, and sweet nourishment.

While the rest of the year pulls us in so many directions, late summer invites us back to center. Back to our roots. Back to what actually sustains us.

Your body knows this intuitively. You might find yourself craving warmer foods, slower movement, more time sitting on the actual earth. This is your body's wisdom asking you to align with the natural rhythms of the season.

How to support earth energy in late summer:

🌱 Eat grounding foods: root vegetables, cooked grains, warming spices
🌱 Practice grounding yoga poses: child's pose, seated forward folds, anything that connects you to the earth
🌱 Slow down your breath: long, steady exhales signal safety to your nervous system
🌱 Spend time barefoot on grass or soil
🌱 Choose stillness over constant doing

Ayurveda teaches us that when we align with nature's cycles, our bodies find balance more easily. Late summer is asking you to ground down before the winds of fall arrive.

Come practice with us and reconnect to the earth beneath you. Your body will thank you.
