To say I’m glad I went to the Perform Better Summit in Rhode Island last weekend is an understatement. I packed so much into that trip. I got to celebrate one of my besties for her birthday with her hometown friends, and I finally saw my buddy Matt’s Fit Body Boot Camp in person after hearing nothing but greatness about it for years. On top of that, I got to connect with some of the best and brightest fitness and fitness business professionals in the industry.

highlight for sure was when Todd let me lead the snake, when people show up for Todd Durkin, they are breathing fire and to get to be a part of that was solid 🪎! Also loved Travis’s session with the incredible Impact Team and getting some one on one time with Robert Yang (creator of PFF is your BFF).

This conference was top notch. The mutual respect that longtime presenters had for each other, and for the Perform Better brand, was outstanding. Perform Better is an equipment company that outfits some of the biggest and best gyms, colleges, and training studios out there, but they also offer education. And in my opinion, nothing is more important than bringing the smartest people together to learn from each other and to be reminded of what we do.

PS I met some great new friends and will be introducing some on the podcast! anybody seeing this that was at Perform Better and would like to be on my podcast, let me know!!!

I can’t let the day go by without recognizing the person who has been a friend to countless people in the KBC community. If you are intimidated, she will make you feel welcome. If you need accountability, she will track you down. If you have a goal, DW will scream woohoo when you reach it and also be the first to lift you if you fall short. Choose your circles wisely. Friends that care as much as DW does are priceless. Set your alarms; we're doing some push-ups at 6 a.m., and… there may even be…

Clean and Shred: Simple Nutrition That Actually Works with Amy Beyer

Kelly Young and Amy Beyer talk about how to make nutrition simpler, more sustainable, and more realistic for everyday life. Amy shares how her approach to food evolved over 12 years of coaching, from strict rules to a more flexible, whole-foods-based method that helps people build habits they can actually maintain.
The conversation covers practical tips for meal planning, packed lunches, ingredient labels, cravings, and the difference between hunger and stress eating. They also discuss Amy’s Clean and Shred program, the power of community support, and how small, consistent changes can make a big difference over time.

Reps, Confidence, and Community: Two College Girls on Starting Before They’re Ready with Bella Maniscalco & Alli Connors

PS Shout out to Freedom High School! You sure produce some great ones!!!

This week on Start Before You’re Ready, Kelly sits down with two young women who spent the summer pouring into the KBC community: Bella Maniscalco, a marketing student at College of Charleston, and Alli Connors, a JMU kinesiology student and daughter of longtime KBC instructor Jess Connors. Bella came on board to help with marketing as part of her college coursework, and Alli ran a youth strength program all summer while also stepping into her own identity as an instructor and coach. They talk about building confidence in front of a room, what it means to run a small program with total commitment and how growing up around fitness shapes the way you show up for people.

The conversation also digs into life as a college freshman navigating food, fitness, and finding your footing away from home. Alli and Bella compare notes on dining halls, cooking for themselves, and staying consistent with healthy habits when the options are suddenly unlimited. Bella reflects on what she learned about branding and community building watching Kelly run KBC, and both women share their own “start before you’re ready” moments, from Alli’s first time leading a class solo to Bella’s leap from an individual sport to a team sport. It’s a fun, heartfelt episode about mentorship, independence, and the reps it takes to grow into who you’re becoming.
