School's out, Memorial Day is almost here, and all Chandler Pools are open! Visit Chandleraz.gov/aquatics for summer swim hours.
May is National Water Safety Month, so while you're planning cannonballs and pool days, don't forget the ABCDs of water safety.
A - Adult Supervision. Whether you're at a backyard pool, the lake, or the ocean, active adult supervision is the first layer of protection. Stay within arm's reach of young children, avoid distractions like phones, and always designate a "Water Watcher" to keep eyes on the water.
B – Barriers. At home pools, barriers like fences, self-latching gates, and locked doors help prevent unsupervised access. At lakes and beaches, barriers can mean respecting warning signs, designated swim areas, and buoy lines that keep swimmers away from dangerous conditions.
C – Classes. Swimming lessons build confidence and lifesaving skills in every environment. Pools, lakes, and oceans all present different challenges, so learning how to float, tread water, and safely enter and exit the water can make a big difference.
D – Devices. Use properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming in open water, or when there is a non-swimmer.
Whether you're a first-time swimmer or a seasoned splash expert, water safety helps everyone enjoy the summer safely. Grab your sunscreen, bring your friends, and we'll see you at the pool!
