Think the middle of your stance is the correct ball position? Not necessarily.
We just wrapped up another Combine Golf School at Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Arizona, and I wanted to share a quick piece from one of our coaching sessions.
One of the biggest things I see with golfers is that they play the ball too far back. In fact, after giving more than 30,000 golf lessons, I’d estimate that about 90% of the golfers I’ve worked with have had the ball too far back at some point.
Why? Because most golfers think about ball position relative to their feet. But your body doesn’t stay where it started.
As you move through the downswing, your pelvis shifts forward. That changes where the golf ball sits relative to your body and, more importantly, where the low point of your swing occurs.
So that takes us to the next step.
When your lead arm is completely extended, that’s the longest lever I can create with the golf club. Understanding that relationship helps us understand where the low point is and ultimately where the golf ball needs to be.
Get ball position wrong, and it can affect your compression, attack angle, club path, and trajectory.
Get it right, and you’re giving yourself a much better opportunity to strike the golf ball cleanly and consistently.
