The night turned around real quickly on us when lil miss couldn’t navigate nursing. After four hours of dozens of failed attempts, we rushed her to the ICU at Littleton Equine for much needed colostrum and fluids.

Prognosis is amazingly good though! The vet team will work with her to learn to latch for nursing, and they’ll keep an eye for any infections or other such nonsense. Throughout the entire process Rhiannon was nothing less than perfect, even when we had to stress her out for the 30 minute trailer ride because baby was in the backseat of the truck for safety.

HUGE huge shoutout to Carly, Blaize, and Carly’s mom for hanging with me tonight until 430! We sleepy. And a massive thank you to those of you at Steiger Farms who have provided nothing but love and support for these two the last six months.

Time to head home. We’re all eager to visit Rhi and baby girl as soon as possible tomorrow. Today? In four hours? Something like that.

Tonight at 9.30p we welcomed (finally!!) Rhiannon’s precious little filly to the world.

These littles are completely adorable. Sasha (chestnut paint) is braver than Jovie, but based on their body scores and scars it makes sense why. Poor Jovie has been thru the ringer already, and so young.

She’s got an awful cut on her hind left that she won’t let us treat, and it could honestly use a vet’s eye anyway so getting that on the books ASAP.

Both will be available for adoption as soon as they tell us they are ready. Lots of rehab first!

It’s been a quiet few days of posting here, sorry friends! The team and I have been working hard on staying compliant behind the scenes, and with the help of an incredibly generous volunteer bookkeeper, we spent almost the entire weekend doing just so.

For anyone who has been wondering how our mamas Enva & Nora have been fairing since the fillies left, here’s a beautiful update for you this Sunday morning. Sharing hay, for the first time ever. 💕✨

The very handsome bay Charlie is also on his way to CAWS with the fillies. They should be here between 1-3pm today!

And surprise! Another mare who needed CAWS. Everyone meet Grace ✨

She was recommended to us, why you ask? Because she is missing an eye (dropped at the auction with an empty, oozing socket) and since we’ve taken in 3 mares with various eye conditions this year already, a friend felt we’d be the right fit to get this girl what she needs.

Melanie was able to clean Grace’s eye a few times and get a mask on her to protect the open wound as best we can until our vets take a look. She’s estimated to be about 15 and nervous but friendly.

Really looking forward to meeting these two as well!
