What keeps leaders up at night — and what gets them up in the morning?
Western Nevada College President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe will take that question to a national audience this month at the Rural Community College Alliance conference in Mississippi.
In “What Keeps You Up at Night and What Gets You Up in the Morning,” Dalpe will explore a side of leadership that doesn’t always make it onto an organizational chart: workplace wellness, managing stress, creating space to think and making difficult decisions with purpose and thoughtfulness.
For Dr. Dalpe, that purpose ultimately comes back to the people we serve.
“It’s not just about getting students in the door. It’s about walking them through it and across the stage. That’s the work that keeps us up at night — and the purpose that gets us up in the morning.”
It’s a message about the weight leaders carry, but also about remembering why that weight is worth carrying, and why healthy, purposeful leadership matters to the health and success of the organizations and communities we serve.
