Sam’s low back kept tightening up.
The problem wasn’t really her low back.
As her running volume has gone up preparing for a 200-mile race, we started noticing she wasn’t getting the hip extension we wanted.
Which meant her glute and hamstring weren’t contributing the way we needed them to.
So other areas started doing more work.
Instead of stretching her low back or giving her 10 different mobility drills, we paired two movements:
1. Banded hip flexor distraction.
2. Single-leg glute bridge ISO hold.
- Create the range.
- Teaching her body to actually use it.
I think this is where a lot of people get mobility work wrong.
They stretch something because it feels tight.
But sometimes the area that feels tight is just the area working overtime.
Are you actually addressing the problem, or just stretching the area that feels tight?

Unlock your full potential with Omni Athlete Training
Why do we always need a label?
Hybrid athlete. Runner. Lifter. Crossfitter.
The goal of Omni is simple. To make you a more capable human.
It’s not about chasing a single identity, but building a lifestyle ready for whatever life asks of you.
What does being a “well-rounded human” look like to you?
When did we loose the idea of play????
Kids won’t let you forget about it.
Neither will we here at Omni.
Omni follows a simple process.
Play - Practice - Progression - Performance
Without play as the foundation there is no sustainability within your framework when reaching your potential and goals.
More running is not always the answer.
If your goal is to increase run volume, go longer, and stay healthy through the process, you cannot only look at mileage.
At some point, the body has to be strong enough to absorb the miles.
Strength training builds the durability, tissue capacity, joint integrity, and positional control needed to handle more volume without breaking down.
This does not mean lifting random weights just to say you lift.
It means building strength that carries over into the demands of running, rucking, climbing, descending, and long-distance efforts.
If your run volume keeps beating you up, the answer may not be more miles.
It may be building the strength required to handle those miles.
If you are tired of guessing how to blend strength and endurance, apply to work with an Omni coach 1-on-1.
We will help you build the strength, engine, and durability to handle the miles without breaking yourself in the process.

Recently I’ve had conversation with an individual who wants to get into more one on one coaching.
He is goals were to get into longer endurance events with a ruck and not a ruck on his back. Hitting distances of 50-70 miles. His concern was him loosing his strength.
I know I haven’t done a great job of sharing my background and the roots of Omni Athlete Training.
So I filled him in with our experience and philosophy in how we train individuals from the ground up.
Strength and movement efficiency is apart of that foundation.
If you are interested in working one on one with Omni or have questions in how we blend these two together.
Feel free to reach out. I love talking about this stuff.

A massive congratulations to Sandra who completed Destination Trail Races Tahoe 200 last weekend in 97:18:13 traveling 200 miles around Lake Tahoe, CA.
Through these five days Sandra showed immense grit especially while battling her feet being torn up by early water crossings. The entire time, she didn’t sway and stayed in it. There wasn’t a doubt that she could complete this. Way to get it done.
While she doesn’t train under Omni some of our team was out supporting her race crewing and pacing. Thank you for trusting us.
