🚀 Meet Rupert the Space Armadillo!

You might not expect to find an armadillo at Cape Canaveral, but Rupert isn’t your ordinary armadillo. He calls the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum home and grew up fascinated by the rockets launching from “The Cape.” 🚀

His story goes back nearly 100 years, when Rupert’s ancestors escaped from a local zoo and eventually spread throughout Florida’s Space Coast. Generations later, Rupert grew up in the shadow of the Cape’s launch complexes, inspiring his love of space exploration.

But Rupert didn’t just watch history, he became part of it. On August 2, 2025, he launched aboard Crew-11 to the International Space Station, becoming the first armadillo and first official museum mascot to travel to space! 🌎🚀

Now, Rupert is on a mission to explore the next frontier: outer space.
Follow his adventures with and learn more about the history preserved at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum.

Because at the Cape, history is launched! 🚀

🚀 A giant leap, captured in art.

Titled One Giant Leap for Mankind, this stunning mural was painted by Jhonattan Arango in 2019 and is located at the Nancy Hanson Recreation Complex.

The mural was commissioned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and celebrate Cape Canaveral’s iconic connection to the past, present, and future of space exploration. 🌙🚀

And the best part? You can see it for yourself! 👀
The mural is just a short walk from the Space Force T-Minus 10-Miler Health & Fitness Expo at The CAPE Culture Center on December 12, 2026.

🚀 Meet this year's Space Force 10-Miler missile: the Matador Missile.

As the first successful U.S. Air Force surface-to-surface missile, the Matador helped shape the future of missile technology through early testing at Cape Canaveral. Its groundbreaking development paved the way for advances in precision strike capabilities and played a key role in establishing the Cape as the nation's premier launch and test range.

Although the Matador retired in the early 1960s, its legacy continues to inspire innovation, and lives on at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum, where a beautifully restored example is on display in Hangar C.
