The Black Queens are off to a perfect start at the 2026 TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations! π¬ππ₯
Ghana secured all three points with a convincing 2-0 victory over tournament debutants Cape Verde in their Group C opener, thanks to a disciplined performance at both ends of the pitch.
The Black Queens made the perfect start, taking the lead in the 7th minute when Doris Boaduwaa calmly finished after a brilliant assist from Portia Boakye. Ghana controlled possession for most of the first half, creating several chances while keeping Cape Verde quiet.
Cape Verde showed more fight after the break, but Ghana's defence remained solid. The pressure eventually told in the 54th minute when Cape Verde defender Eleia Katy Pereira Vieira unfortunately turned the ball into her own net, giving Ghana a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The debutants' difficult evening ended on a sour note when Kleydiana Borges received a straight red card deep into stoppage time, reducing Cape Verde to ten players.
It was a confident and professional display from the Black Queens, who begin their WAFCON 2026 journey with a clean sheet and three valuable points.
