New lifting program making you sore?

If you are doing 4x4x4x4s, lifting 8 days a week, or max hangs 3x a days…the soreness is because your program sucks.

If you are starting a new (good) program you might get a little sore and fatigued until your body adapts to it. It will go away and you’ll be able to simultaneously lift well and climb well.

Don’t stop, or avoid training all together, out of soreness fear. A little is just part of a new process.

💪💪💪💪

And if you have been just winging programs and finally want a structured plan to follow, comment “stronger” below to set up a chat with me about coaching 🤘

Climbing vs. Off Wall Training

07/05/2026

The word “power” gets sprinkled in climbing conversation more than salt on a pretzel. And often times in misleading ways:

Strength = Force/Effort

Power = Strength divided by Time

That’s it.

To train strength you create a lot of force, lift heavy things, etc.

To get more powerful you need to train at faster speeds.

Overtime you can produce more force, and more force faster.

Training Periodization

Typically this concept revolves around a building phase into strength into power into peaking, etc.

Which is not wrong.

But, we can easily get attached to labels. And when we jump to the next label “just because”, you may or may not be actually ready for that next phase.

Also, some adaptations need constant communication/training so they don’t back track. You just can’t do “power” for 3 weeks and then take 16 weeks off, etc.

But, programming via assessment analysis and understanding the adaptions that underpin these “labels” allows us to program more intentionally.

Strength training sets your foundation.

The foundation to do more complex training.

The foundation of injury resilience.

The foundation to move well, do your sport, and do life.

Comment “coach” for individualized climbing training plans 👊

I threw out 1 month training plan offers because they are a waste of time.

I was wasting climbers time because there was no direction to the future or further plans.

And that one month plan was just a birthday party away from getting derailed and having the climber ghost me.

Thats why I have a minimum 3 month commitment from the start. Because anything less and you don’t have time to see the changes you want. We need to stick together to get over the initial bumps of training to really start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and for your progress to begin.

💪

If you are a climber ready to commit to something long term to better your strength, health, health and climbing. Comment “coach” below and we’ll chat about 1:1 coaching and if we’d make a great team 👊

“I don’t have time to strength train and climb”

Yes you do.

Your game plan and program probably just isn’t as dialed in as it should be.
