By late September, the nights at Lake Mead are cool enough to stand outside for a long time without thinking about the temperature.

Temple Bar sits in a dark sky corridor on the Arizona edge of the lake. What you see overhead on a clear September night is not what you see from Las Vegas, Phoenix, or anywhere with a city in it.

The Milky Way. Satellites crossing. Stars that don't have names you know.

The Autumn Equinox is today, and at Temple Bar Marina it means something specific.

Equal parts day and night. The light hitting the canyon walls at a lower angle than it did a month ago. The evenings arriving a little earlier and lasting a different way. Water temperature that makes a morning swim feel like something you earned.

This is the corner of Arizona that changes without announcing it. You notice it in the shadows first, then in the color of the cliffs at 5 PM, then in the way the lake feels at night.

Fish tacos, wings, the TBM Southwest Burger, pizza, Malibu Chicken, frozen cocktails on the patio while the canyon cools down around you.
