Why do I always invert like this?
And should you?
This invert style is *easier* when it comes to muscular effort, but harder when it comes to coordination. It can take some time to finesse the details and timing, but once you do, getting up in the air becomes a lot less work.
Often when things feel hard in aerial, it is because they are hard. But it's worth exploring if there is a technical shift that can make the whole thing feel lighter and easier ✨
As an instructor who demos liberally, this invert has been a huge support of my stamina in classes. I use both legs at once when demoing that specifically to students, but given the option, I choose the split-leg every time 💯
Do you use this technique?
I call it beatbox, and the tutorial is available on Aerial Silks Online.

One of the **most important lessons in aerial** and one that's often missing entirely.
**Comment "CORE" and I'll send you the free lesson.**
One of the biggest mistakes I see is treating **getting upside down** as proof that an invert was taught well.
We tell students to **"engage your core."** But...
• What does that actually mean?
• Which muscles should be working?
• How should the ribs and pelvis be organized?
• What does good coordination actually feel like?
Without those answers, many students end up relying on momentum and put their back at risk instead of building the movement pattern that will actually make them stronger.
In this free lesson, I break down the mechanics behind a coordinated and strong hammock invert so you can lock in the right movement patterns.
Whether you're:
✨ a student who's felt like something was missing, or
✨ an instructor who wants to get this right for your students
this lesson is for you.
Because aerial is evolving quickly, and teaching standards are not keeping pace.

If you've been told to "lift higher" in your Russian Flirt...that was uninformed instruction.
We can organize the legs and hips intelligently to get a clean wrap with less effort - and it's not about lifting.
Students - want the shortcut to aerial mastery? Check out my program Foundations Mastery - a 12-week program that teaches you exactly what most teachers and students are missing - and how to actually develop body awareness, not just technical knowledge.
