🔥MATA FINK STYLE🔥

New summer drop of some tank tops and shirts. Something that fits the style of us and a tribute to our rivers boating scene which our city is known for.

Hand drawn. Custom made. A beautiful piece done by our guy Brandon at Graveyard Apparel. Always bringing our ideas to life. A twelve and a half hour session put into this. We can’t thank him enough.

We did a limited run of kids tanks and tees, along with adult shirts. Tank tops was our main focus for this drop.

Happy to announce Mata Jiu-Jitsu is now an approved Arizona ESA vendor! 🇺🇸

Families using Arizona ESA funds can now enroll their children in our kids Jiu-Jitsu program. Build confidence, discipline, respect, and real self-defense skills in a fun, positive, and safe environment. Giving an outlet to homeschool children to socialize, make friends, and have physical exercise. There will be a private class specifically for ESA students coming to the schedule soon. 🐺

A great night of promotions. As most people know, being promoted in our lineage is never easy. A test of technical skill, physical conditioning, and grit. A test that pushes one self to limits they didn’t know they could reach or endure. Everything is earned, never given. That’s what makes these belts so special and mean something. No paid ceremony fee, no attendance tracker, nothing but hard work put in day in and day out to obtain the technical skills to achieve being promoted to the next level.

This test makes you shine in parts, and other parts make you look like sh*t. Those bad moments let you know what type of new focus you need to have with your next belt. New goals to set and skills to try to obtain.

As always it’s awesome to have our RICK LUCERO family be apart of the night. Having the old man get into the mix of things, and say some words about everyone as he’s played a major part of these peoples development early in their journey and continues to do so.

Another competition in the books. A lot of experience gained for our kids, teens, and adults. Most our all our competitors this time were first time competitors. Tears were shed, cheer was spread, and some black eyes and blood happened. Everybody fought their best and never quit. We are so proud of these kids for showing resilience, continuing to battle if they were down, and stepping back onto the mat for their next match if they had bad moments before. Listening to coaching and making adjustment’s between their matches. Competing in jiujitsu is an experience that makes us grow. As a student, as a coach, and as a team.

Thank you to all the parents for their support. Rallying behind every kid or teen that was competing. But most of all, thank you for trusting us to take your child through this experience. Together, WE ARE MATA. 🐺

What an awesome night of fun with Parents On The Mat Night!

A experience not only for the kids but parents as well. They got to see first hand what it feels like to go through the same warmups, drills, and how it feels to put your skills to the test in front of the whole class during superfights.

We are very thankful for all the parents who stepped onto the mats. It was more than we expected, and got everyone so excited for the next one.

When we decided to open Mata, we had a vision to create a culture that was unmatched. A place spreading the power and benefits of jiu-jitsu for everyone. This place has become more then just a gym, more then a community, but a family.

Together..WE ARE MATA. 🐺

✨COACH APPRECIATION POST✨

The General. The Boss. Coach Halph.

The opening and start of Mata wouldn’t have been possible without this man. He does so much behind the scenes that people don’t see. At the same time, he works full time and runs his own business. Still showing up daily to help with the day to day classes and teach.

Ralph’s passion for jiu-jitsu runs deep. He loves to help new people on the mats, loves to focus on growth and development of kids and teens, and all around just loves everything about jiu-jitsu and what it gives us. He brings so much wisdom to our mats. Ralph brings a different flavor and style to teaching as well what people call “The Old Man’s Game”. Specializing in strong fundamentals, pressure, and slowing people down. With a twist of some crazy wacky fun lapel stuff.

We can’t say enough good things about Coach Ralph. He deserves all the love and appreciation with the time and passion he puts into our gym, people, kids, and the programs.

Old man, we all got so much love for you. Never stop being a jokester. Never stop getting younger. Never stop being you.
