It is with great honor and a wide range of wild emotions that we announce 30 years of Furnace in skateboarding since 1996.
What really stuck out to me and ultimately what led me to want to get involved was the mindset of people revolving around Furnace, and Bionic Records by association. I felt like I had a home, I wasn’t alone in this journey in the 90s. It felt like a new path and direction that the culture was embarking on, and the presence of Furnace felt impactful, and it absolutely was.
We’ve been here serving Orange County and Long Beach areas with pride, all with intentions of sustaining a powerful culture and just being a solid place skateboarders could lean on. It has been our goal, our original mission statement to continue this long journey to be a good home for skateboarding.
Digging thru archival Furnace memorabilia from 30 years ago is always an awesome trip down memory lane. Our first flyers encompass the DIY spirit, handwriting/typing and placing stickers on sheets of paper to photocopy stacks to place around the city to promote events.
The first business cards portray the initial flame we now call “Pilot” representing the “pilot light” that lead to the flame most know today.
Heat press logos was a fond memory, the experience of relentlessly pressing shirts in the old back room, sweating profusely in the process! Nice to see the founder’s handwriting.
Polaroids and photo prints were all we had access to, grateful to have these to remember the old shop at our original location.
The New Horizon premiere and VHS video release is still so meaningful to us. What a night to remember!
With the 90s revival and renaissance we have been witnessing the last few years, it’s a good time to reel things back and showcase content we have not been hyper focused on, which is our rich history and contributions to the culture at large. New goals.
So much more to say. We are deeply grateful to everybody who has supported us. We are going to keep this firey train moving. We hope you’ve enjoyed the ride to nowhere and everywhere with us. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. You know where to find us! 🏠❤️
