What if you’ve been paying for pain that hasn’t even happened yet?

Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Things are going well...

Don’t get too comfortable.

Something good happens...

Yeah, but how long will it last?

One thing goes wrong...

OF COURSE. What else could possibly happen today?

Sound familiar?

Maybe you’re not simply a pessimist.

Maybe your brain got really fu***ng good at anticipating what came next.

When you’ve spent enough time scanning for danger, peace can feel unfamiliar. Sometimes even joy can make you brace for what might happen after it.

So maybe healing doesn’t start with forcing yourself to BE HAPPY!

Maybe it starts with five seconds.

Sun on your face.

Your dog beside you.

The smell of the woods.

Wind against your skin.

A moment when absolutely nothing is wrong.

Notice it.

Let yourself have it.

And when your brain starts with...

“Yeah, but what if—”

Try answering:

Not right now.

Right now, I’m okay.

My latest Substack is about trauma, hypervigilance, and slowly learning how to let joy back in—one tiny drop at a time.

"You taught me how to listen to the world around me, slow my thoughts down, and focus on what I can hear, see, and feel."

In a fast-paced world, sometimes all we need is a moment of stillness to connect with our surroundings truly. Let's embrace the beauty of mindfulness and the power of listening.

What have you learned from nature lately? Share your thoughts below!

Maybe you’ve heard “You’re so strong” so many times that somewhere along the way it stopped feeling like a compliment and started feeling like a job description.

Yeah.

Me too.

This week, life threw me into crisis-management mode again.

And I did what I’ve always done.

Held my s**t together.
Made the plans.
Took care of what needed to be done.
Kept working.
Kept teaching.
Kept moving.

Then, when everything was finally okay?

I fell apart.

Because somewhere along the way, my nervous system learned:

Survive first. Feel later.

People see strength.

What they don’t always see is the person underneath it who sometimes desperately wants someone else to say:

I’ve got this. You rest.

My latest Substack is probably one of my more vulnerable ones.

I’m Tired of Being Strong.

For every caregiver, mother, helper, fixer, and woman who is really fu***ng good at carrying everything...

Maybe it’s time we learned how to put some of it down.

Five miles isn’t always five miles.

When you’re choosing your next trail, don’t just look at mileage! Consider these factors:

- Total elevation gain
- Elevation profile
- Terrain
- Pack weight
- Weather

Learning to read the trail before you hike it helps you prepare smarter—and hike with more confidence!

She wasn't looking for answers. She was looking for peace.

She had spent enough time trying to figure it out.

Why it happened.
What she could have done differently.
What someone else should have done differently.
What she missed.
What came next.

Her mind could turn the same questions over a thousand different ways and still never land anywhere that felt like peace.

Eventually, she became tired of searching for an answer that might not exist.
She didn't need another explanation.
She needed quiet.

The kind of quiet where you can finally hear birds instead of your own thoughts racing.
The kind where you notice the warmth of the sun on your face.
Where your breathing slows without you telling it to.
Where, for a few moments, you aren't solving anything.
You're just there.

Nature doesn't explain itself.
A storm passes without apologizing.
A tree falls without giving us a reason.
Seasons end whether we're ready for them to or not.
And somehow life continues.
Maybe acceptance begins there.
Not with deciding that what happened was okay.
Not with understanding every piece of the story.

But with recognizing:
This happened.
I cannot change it.
And I am still here.
Peace isn't always the absence of pain.

Sometimes it's the moment we stop fighting reality long enough to notice that something beautiful still exists beside it.
A sunset.
Cold water rushing over rocks.
Someone laughing around a campfire.
Your own feet carrying you farther than you thought they could.

Maybe peace isn't something we find once and keep forever.
Maybe it's something we practice noticing.
Again.
And again.
And again.

Trail Reflection: What might change if you stopped needing an answer and allowed yourself to seek peace instead?

Trail Truth: Acceptance doesn't mean you approve of what happened. It means you stop asking the past to become different.

Gentle Invitation: If you've been searching for answers and finding only more questions, perhaps what you need next isn't another answer. Maybe you simply need some room to breathe.

Every woman arrives with a different story. They leave with one thing in common—they trust themselves a little more.

There’s a lot more to taking clients outside than choosing a trail.

One professional I recently worked with shared:

“My eyes were opened to many aspects of planning a trip that had nothing to do with picking a trail. The amount of detail and forethought that goes into pre-planning and follow-up is astounding.”

That’s exactly where professional consultation can help. With 20+ years of experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation, I assist therapists and wellness professionals in transforming great ideas into intentional programs. This includes experiential design, logistics, risk management, ethical considerations, regulatory requirements, and evaluation.

Whether you're considering hiking, backpacking, movement-based wellness, or other nature-based experiential programming, you don’t have to navigate every piece alone.

Curious about consulting? DM me "CONSULT," and I’ll send you information about my free readiness guide, Professional Blueprint, and 1:1 consulting options.

Professional consultation is educational and program-focused and does not constitute clinical supervision.
