If you could go back and give your younger athlete self one piece of advice, what would it be? 🏐
For Coach Taylor, years of playing, learning, competing, and growing have given her a completely different perspective on the things that once felt so important.
The mistakes. The pressure to be perfect. The tough practices. The confidence that comes and goes. The extra work that doesn’t always show results right away.
Now, she gets the opportunity to take what volleyball has taught her and use it to help the next generation of athletes navigate their own journey.
We’re so excited to have Coach Taylor joining Indy Hybrid and can’t wait for our athletes to learn from her, be challenged by her, and get to know the person behind the coach. 🩵
Swipe to see what Coach Taylor wishes she knew when she was a young athlete. ➡️
1. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
No one is perfect, not even the best players. Mistakes and things you need to work on are a part of the game. How can you become a better player if there is nothing to improve? Instead of being frustrated with yourself, use your mistakes as opportunities to grow.
2. Never compare yourself to others.
Everyone develops at their own pace and is at a different level in their volleyball journey. Comparing yourself to someone else will only take away from your own progress. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself and celebrate how far you have come.
3. Enjoy the game and the process.
Even during those long tournaments when you don’t want to be there, or those one-hour lessons when you feel tired, try to remember why you started playing. You have the opportunity to be on the court, learn, compete, and do something you love. Enjoy the little moments because they go by faster than you think.
4. Trust your development.
Getting better takes time. You won’t become the best player overnight, and that’s okay. Keep working, stay patient with yourself, and trust that all of the practices, lessons, mistakes, and experiences are helping you grow.
