We’re planting seeds together. A small take-home reminder from a big-hearted day celebrating our scholarship recipients and honoring Dominic’s life and memory. With a little help from the Arts and Crafts Studio at Apex Simms Street Recreation Center, we painted pots and plant stakes to “plant the seeds” within our community, helping teens and young adults make safer choices when it comes to driving after drinking. Thank you for joining us and making a difference.

How can you tell if a driver is impaired? Here are ways you can tell if someone has had one too many or is driving under the influence of drugs. Use your senses—sight, smell, and hearing, to be exact. Ask yourself these questions.

👁How do they look?
Glossy or bloodshot eyes; dilated pupils, or they can’t keep their eyes open.
Are they stumbling or struggling to walk straight?
Are they acting agitated? Sweaty, alert, or jittery?
Are they moving slowly, lethargic, or drowsy?

👂🏼How do they sound?
Are they slurring their words?
Talking slowly or mumbling?
Talking quickly and rushing their words?
Or are they talking louder than usual?

👃How do they smell?
Is there a strong, sharp smell coming from them, like alcohol?
Do they smell skunky, like cannabis?
Or do they have bad breath?

💙Remember, just because someone says they’re okay to drive when you ask doesn’t mean they are. Any amount of mind-altering substance impairs one’s ability to drive. It’s not worth your life.

Hey, Moms (Dads, and guardians), it's okay to say it again. Your teen may roll their eyes, but say it anyway. Remind them they can call you. Remind them they have a choice and can leave.

Remind them that one unsafe ride is not worth their life.

Tell your teen today: I will come get you. No lecture. I just want you home safe. I love you.
