Four races into AGSS, the team competition is heating up! PPTC showed up to defend the loop, and we’re on top of the standings for now — but it’s a narrow lead, so be sure to sign up for our last race! NBR and Daytime Run Club fill out the podium, followed by strong performances from Glue Factory Track Club, SBRC, Running for Ayotzinapa 43, and the Old Man Run Club. It’s been a great summer — see y’all soon in the park for one more!

Happy 5th anniversary to the Southeast Corner (SEC) run! PPTC started this Friday morning run at the Parkside / Ocean Ave entrance of Prospect Park in 2021 as we gave some thought to improving accessibility to all runners around the park. The run has grown from modest beginnings to a group of 20-50 who run or walk a park loop before winding up Der Pioneer for coffee and pastries. On the blog, Rachael DePalma shares her reflections — and some other runners’ — on what the SEC run has come to mean to the PPTC community.

In one sense, everyone won last week’s AGSS: the weather cooperated and 648 people got to run the best 5K in Prospect Park (not that we’re biased 😉). In a more competitive sense, our local clubs showed up and did themselves proud! In first place this time and overall, we’ve got North Brooklyn Runners, followed by Daytime and PPTC. Rounding out the top seven are GLUE FACTORY TRACK CLUB, South Brooklyn Running Club, Ayotzinapa 43, and Dashing Whippets Running Team!
Team Points scoring at AGSS is based on a cross-country style format. For each race, a team’s top five finishers (at least 2 female or non-binary runners and no more than 3 male runners) will combine their places for a total score, with the lowest score taking the win. For more on the Team Points competition, go to https://pptc.org/team-scoring. We’ve got two more races coming up, so plenty of chances to bring your friends and teammates and move up the scoreboard!

PPTC members had a great time at Team Champs! 110 athletes participated and many others cheered with cowbells and signs, including one featuring icon and mascot Jimothy the trash panda. 🦝 We were 6th in the Open A category for men, 8th for women, and made a strong showing in the nonbinary division. Thanks to everyone who showed up and brought the team spirit!
