On Tuesday, September 22, the Golden Eagles competed in the Cascades South Jamboree in Hanover. It was a great day of racing for both our middle school and high school teams, with several outstanding performances and personal records.

The middle school runners started the day, and the boys had a fantastic race. Elijah Sierer led the Golden Eagles, placing 2nd overall with an impressive time of 12:53. Jonah Drlicka followed with a 6th-place finish, Jordan Timbrook placed 8th, and Roman Vogel finished 10th. Blake Thorsby also had a great race, recording a new personal record.

The middle school girls raced next, with Lynsey Leindecker leading the Golden Eagles with a 7th-place finish in 15:20. Emelia Gaitan and Nina Henion both had new personal records.

The high school runners finished out the day, and it was an impressive showing on a challenging course. The Golden Eagles recorded eight personal records! Eli Fassett led the team with a new PR of 18:30. Other runners recording PRs were Wyatt Miller (19:56), Mason Foster (20:02), Jordon Patrick (21:41), Bryson Knapp (22:49), Kyle Lumbrezer (24:14), and Brody Sherwood (26:55). Ethan Hammontree also had a strong performance, running a season-best time of 23:57.

Megan Timbrook was our lone female high school runner this week and had an outstanding race, recording a new personal record of 23:38 and placing 16th overall.

The Columbia Central Golden Eagles Varsity soccer team bounced back in a BIG way Wednesday night, defeating the Jonesville Comets 7-2 to remain atop the Cascades Conference standings! Coming off a tough loss to Grass Lake on Monday, Columbia improved to 7-1 in conference play with just two conference matches remaining.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, managing just seven shots on goal in the first half. Senior midfielder Brady Beaver provided the spark, scoring his first goal of the season off a corner kick delivered by senior captain Eli Hawley to give Columbia a 1-0 halftime lead.

But the second half was a completely different story! Less than two minutes after the restart, senior David Munro played a beautiful ball across the box that Hawley buried to double Columbia's lead. After Hawley was taken down by the Jonesville goalkeeper without a whistle, the Comets were awarded a penalty kick following an unfortunate Columbia handball, cutting the lead to 2-1. The Golden Eagles wasted no time responding, unleashing THREE GOALS IN FIVE MINUTES! Defenders Luke Ellison and Greyson Schiel each delivered perfectly timed balls behind the defense that Hawley finished without hesitation to complete his hat trick. Hawley then turned provider, serving a beautiful ball across the goal for fellow senior captain Auden Kennedy to finish.

Jonesville refused to go quietly, crashing the net on a corner kick to pull one back. But Columbia wasn't finished! Senior midfielder Dylan Stiles delivered two nearly identical crosses from the outside, finding Schiel and Hawley, who each struck spectacular volleys out of the air into the far side netting to put the game away!

With their conference title hopes still firmly in their own hands, the Golden Eagles now turn their attention to a busy stretch of soccer. Columbia makes the long trip to Lake Odessa Lakewood on Saturday before traveling to Manchester on Monday for a crucial Cascades Conference showdown against a Flying Dutchmen squad that remains unbeaten on its home turf. With just two conference matches remaining, every game matters!

The Columbia Central Golden Eagles Varsity Soccer Team remained undefeated in Cascades Conference play Wednesday night with a dominant 8–0 victory over Michigan Center!

Senior captain Auden Kennedy opened the scoring when he pounced on a rebound in a crowded goalmouth and buried it for the early lead. Just minutes later, fellow senior captain Eli Hawley stepped to the penalty spot and confidently converted to make it 2–0. Kennedy struck again just before halftime, sending the Golden Eagles into the break with a commanding 3–0 advantage.

The second half belonged to Hawley. The senior captain erupted for four more goals, beginning with a beautiful unassisted finish placed perfectly into the opposite corner. Hawley then turned provider, serving a corner to senior midfielder David Munro, who rose above the defense and headed it home for his 4th goal of the season. Senior Dylan Stiles delivered a beautiful cross from outside the box that Hawley finished for another goal, and sophomore midfielder Foster Munro followed with a perfectly weighted through ball that Hawley calmly tucked into the side netting. With the clock nearly expired, senior defender Luke Ellison made a tremendous run forward and sent a cross into Hawley, who controlled it with a touch and buried the final goal of the night with just 11 seconds remaining!

Hawley finished an incredible night with 5 goals and an assist, while Kennedy added 2 goals and David Munro added another. Columbia peppered the Michigan Center goal with 21 shots on target, while junior goalkeeper Zach Schultz turned away all four Cardinal attempts to earn his 4th clean sheet of the season.

The Golden Eagles travel to Grass Lake on Monday, September 21 at 5:30 PM for another huge Cascades Conference matchup against the Warriors!

The Columbia Central Golden Eagles Varsity Soccer team earned another big Cascades Conference victory Wednesday night, defeating the Jonesville Comets 2–0 behind a dominant defensive effort and two spectacular free kicks from senior captain Eli Hawley. Columbia controlled the action against a strong, physical Jonesville squad, piling up 15 shots on goal while holding the Comets to just two for the entire match. Despite creating plenty of opportunities, the Golden Eagles struggled to break through until late in the first half, when Hawley stepped up and buried a beautiful 22-yard free kick into the right side of the goal, sending Columbia into halftime with a 1–0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles kept the pressure on throughout the second half, refusing to let Jonesville find its way back into the match. Hawley eventually struck again from a set piece, bending another free kick past the wall and into the bottom-left corner to seal the 2–0 victory. With their second conference matchup of the season in the books, the Golden Eagles now turn their attention to another Cascades Conference battle when they host Leslie on Wednesday, September 9. 🦅⚽
