Whether you are running drills, building muscle memory, or finally putting together the kit you have been planning all year, now is the time to put in the work before the season opens. 🫡

Hummingbird populations peak in late summer across North America, as one, two, and on rare occasions, three clutches of young join adults to forage at nectar feeders, on flowers, on spiders, and tiny flying insects.

Late July through early September is the best time of year for hummingbird-watching. It’s fun to identify hatch-year birds, and if you’re lucky, to spot a wanderer, far out of its normal range 🌍.

Quick tip for river and wade fishing: your line management matters more than your cast. 🎣

Loose line tangling around your waders, your net, or the current is one of the most common reasons anglers lose fish at the critical moment.

Keep your slack controlled, net secured, and always know where your line is before you set the hook. August river fishing can be absolutely excellent in the right conditions.

Fully multi-coated lenses transmit significantly more light than single-coated glass, which means better clarity, truer color, and less eye strain over long glassing sessions.

July birding is all about timing.

Head out at sunrise or in the last hour of daylight when it’s cooler and birds are most active. Focus on shady forest edges, creek lines, and wetlands where birds retreat from the midday sun—you’ll still catch warblers, wrens, and flycatchers feeding and calling while the rest of the day is quiet.

🧢 Pro tip: bring water, a hat, and light clothing so you can stay out comfortably and safely just a little longer.
