We are excited to host another Community Square Dance on Saturday, September 26 (a week from today!) in partnership with the Birthplace of Country Music Museum! Everyone is welcome to join!
Date: Saturday, September 26, 2026
Time: 7-9 p.m.
Location: Bristol Ballet, 330 Buford Street, Bristol, VA
Cost: Free and open to the public, donations appreciated
As part of the event, we are excited to revive Bristol Ballet’s original piece, A Love Letter to Appalachia (choreographed by Moira Frazier Ostrander and Amanda Hairston). This piece is set to Dolly Parton’s classic tune My Tennessee Mountain Home, which we think also applies to the Southwest Virginia side of Bristol! The song utilizes beautiful imagery and nods to Appalachian folk music, crafting a love letter to the region we, and Dolly, call home. We are a truly Appalachian ballet company that is inspired every day by the rich culture of our region, of which Dolly was a notable leader, and we are excited to honor her at this event.
Come dance the night away with us at our Community Square Dance! Bristol Ballet Company dancers will start the night with a performance of the original piece Love Letter to Appalachia, a tribute to our region and to Dolly Parton (set to her song, My Tennessee Mountain Home). Then, Caller Tyler Hughes will lead a short introduction to dance steps, followed by a full square dance with a lively string band led by John Bills.
This event is open to all ages and no experience or partner is required.
Space is limited so sign up to participate soon! Sign up now at https://www.tixr.com/e/198434
We hope you join us!
