Jane Rhodes Martin didn't start scuba diving until she retired at 55.

She went on to spend more than four decades exploring the underwater world, eventually entering the Guinness World Records after diving off Isla Mujeres at the age of 94 years and 364 days.

Jane died peacefully at home on September 1, aged 99.

The record was remarkable. The life behind it was even bigger.

Our tribute to a diver who demonstrated that adventure doesn't come with an expiry date.

Louisiana health officials are warning coastal water users after nine people have contracted Vibrio vulnificus so far in 2026 — and five have died.

Every reported case involved a wound exposed to seawater.

For divers, swimmers and boaters, the message is simple: don't enter salt or brackish water with an open wound.
