Before you ask for a raise, build the case for one.

Real progress rarely happens alone. When women have the right support and the right strategy in their corner, hard conversations start feeling a lot less hard. If you have been underpaid relative to your impact for a while, the issue usually isn't your performance. It's that the case for your raise hasn't been built in a way leadership can say yes to.

As a salary negotiation coach, Shannon Fox teaches women that how to ask for a raise starts weeks before the conversation itself. You define the number, document your measurable impact, and walk in with a plan tied to what your company actually cares about right now. Confidence follows preparation, not the other way around.

✔ Set a clear, specific raise goal
✔ Document the results you are already delivering
✔ Map a 90-day plan that matches company priorities

Whether you are negotiating in Los Angeles, Miami, or anywhere across North America, fall is when many companies shape next year's budgets. The women who prepare now are the ones who get heard then.

Most promotion conversations happen...

Without you.

That isn't meant to scare you.

It's meant to remind you why visibility matters.

Your goal isn't to become louder.

Your goal is to help leadership clearly recognize the value you already create.

That's exactly what we explore in this week's conversation with Natalie Holder.

Passed over for a promotion you thought you'd earned?

Here is the uncomfortable truth most high-achieving women never hear: it probably wasn't about your performance. Companies promote the people whose impact is easiest to see and simplest to explain in a room you are not in. If your results speak quietly while others narrate theirs loudly, the decision gets made without you.

As a promotion coach for women, Shannon Fox helps clients close that exact gap. Her 5% Promotion Method is built around one idea: you do not need to become someone else to advance. You need to become legible to leadership. That means translating the work you already do into a story decision-makers recognize, reward, and remember when promotion season arrives.

✔ Identify the strategic value hiding in your everyday wins
✔ Communicate impact in the language leadership actually tracks
✔ Build visibility without adding hours or risking burnout

With year-end reviews on the horizon in Chicago, Denver, and boardrooms everywhere, the positioning you do this fall shapes the decisions made this winter.

Before you head into another workweek, I have ONE small promotion move for you. 👇

This week, every time someone brings you a problem, pause before jumping in to fix it.

Ask yourself: "Am I solving today's problem, or am I helping create a better way for us to solve this problem in the future?"

Because there IS a difference.

High performers are really good at solving problems.

But as you move into leadership, your job isn't always to be the person with the quickest answer.

Sometimes it's to step back and ask:
How do we prevent this from happening again?
Is there a better process?
What are we actually trying to solve?
What needs to change so the team can handle this differently next time?

That's the shift.

From reacting ➡️ leading.
From completing ➡️ improving.
From solving today's problem ➡️ creating progress for tomorrow.

And no, one moment isn't going to magically get you promoted Monday morning. 😉

But when you start consistently THINKING differently, you start SHOWING UP differently.

And over time, people notice.

So that's your challenge this week.

Before you solve the problem, pause and look for the bigger opportunity. 🔥

Save this one tonight so you remember it tomorrow.

Your career isn't stuck. Your story just isn't being told.

Many high-performing women hit a strange wall: the results are there, the workload is heavy, and yet the title and pay stay flat. If you have been searching for how to get recognized at work, the answer is rarely more effort. It is making your existing impact legible to the people making decisions. Leadership cannot reward what they cannot clearly see.

As a career advancement coach for women, Shannon Fox helps clients turn quiet, consistent results into a leadership narrative that opens doors. Her 5% Promotion Method focuses on visibility, boundaries, and communication, so you advance without burning out or stretching your hours even further.

• Recognize the strategic value of work you already do
• Speak about your impact in language decision-makers reward
• Set boundaries that protect your energy and your reputation

As Q4 approaches, companies in New York City and across North America are making year-end decisions about people and pay. Now is the right time to shape how leadership sees you before those conversations happen.

Being reliable isn't the same as being seen as leadership.

You are the person everyone counts on. Projects land on your desk because you deliver, every time. But when leadership starts talking about who is ready for the next level, your name somehow doesn't come up. That gap between being dependable and being visible is where careers stall, and it has nothing to do with how hard you work.

As a leadership coach for women, Shannon Fox helps high performers shift from reliable contributor to strategic leader in the eyes of decision-makers. If you have been wondering how to get promoted at work without extending your hours, the answer is positioning, not more output.

• Communicate your impact before results review season
• Lead visibly in meetings, not just behind the scenes
• Protect your energy while raising your profile

As fall planning kicks into gear across Nashville and beyond, companies are quietly shaping next year's leadership picture. This is the moment to make sure your name is in that conversation.

Everyone counts on you.

You follow through.
You solve the problem.
You pick up the ball when someone drops it.
You're the person everyone knows will GET. IT. DONE.

That's a fantastic reputation to have.

But here's where a lot of high-performing women get stuck...
They assume being seen as reliable automatically means they're being seen as a leader.

It doesn't.

Reliability earns trust.

Leadership earns influence.

And you need BOTH.

Because if you've built your entire professional reputation around being the person who executes, fixes, helps, and gets things done, leadership may absolutely value you...

without necessarily seeing you as the person they want setting direction.

That's a very different reputation.

Don't just ask: "How can I get this done?"

Start asking: "How can I influence where we're going?"

That's the shift from being the person everyone relies on to becoming the person others look to for leadership. 🔥

What if being reliable is only half the equation?

Yes, reliability builds trust.

But trust alone doesn't create leadership opportunities.
✨ Reliable employees complete the work.
✨ Leaders influence the work.
✨ Reliable employees solve today's problems.
✨ Leaders help prevent tomorrow's.

If you want to become impossible to overlook, don't stop at being dependable.
Help people experience how you think.

That's leadership.

Here's one sentence I want you to stop using in promotion conversations: "I just wanted to see if maybe there are opportunities for me to grow."

It's vague.

And it makes leadership do all the work.

Try: "I'm interested in moving toward [ROLE/LEVEL]. I'd like to understand what you would need to see from me to confidently support that move."

You're not demanding a promotion.
You're creating clarity around the path.

Confidence doesn't mean having the perfect words.

It means knowing what conversation you're actually trying to have.

Before you ask for a raise, build the case for one.

Walking into a compensation conversation with enthusiasm but no strategy is where many talented women lose ground. Leadership responds to evidence, not effort, and the evidence has to be framed in terms they already value. That is exactly why the most effective raise conversations start weeks before you ever sit down with your boss.

As a salary negotiation coach for women, Shannon Fox helps high performers document their measurable impact, connect their contributions to company priorities, and learn how to ask for a raise with calm confidence instead of nervous hope. It starts with reflection and clarity: what have you actually delivered, and how does leadership describe it when you are not in the room?

👉 Define a raise goal that is specific and defensible
👉 Document wins in the language decision-makers reward
👉 Map a 90-day plan so the conversation feels inevitable

If you are in Los Angeles or connecting virtually, this is the season to get intentional before year-end budget decisions are made.
